Akron & Toledo Share Cross Country Athlete of the Week Honors
Men’s Co-Runners of the Week
Andre Bollam-Godbott, Akron
Junior – Brunswick, Ohio/Brunswick
After capturing the men's individual title at the Tommy Evans Invitational as a freshman in 2017, Andre Bollam-Godbott earned top honors for a second time as a Zip taking down Ohio's Josh Park, the defending Mid-American Conference Cross Country champion, crossing the line in a career-best four-mile time of 19:15.4. His efforts helped Akron capture the men’s team title.
Jacob Harris, Toledo
Freshman – Toledo, Ohio/Whitmer
Freshman Jacob Harris captured the individual title in his collegiate debut for the University of Toledo, stopping the clock at 25:52.1 at the NIU Huskie Challenge in DeKalb, Ill. on Friday. Harris' first-place finish helped the Rockets to a fourth-place team finish with 79 points.
Women’s Runner of the Week
Mackenzie Andrews, Akron
Senior – Toowoomba, Australia/Fairholme College
Mackenzie Andrews finished first in the women's 5K race at the Tommy Evans Invitational in a career-best time of 17:11.2, a more than 50-second victory over her second-place competitor, to lead Akron to the women's title with 45 points.

Clark Bookman, Kent State
Senior – Mogadore, Ohio/Field
Bookman led the Golden Flashes for the second straight race in 2019. He recorded his second top-five finish of the season and his highest finish since he won the Tommy Evans Invitational a season ago.
Melissa Koziol, Ohio
Senior – Burton,Ohio/Berkshire
Melissa Koziol recorded a personal best in the 5K race at the Tommy Evans Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 9th in Akron, Ohio. She finished with a time of 18:01.9, leading the Bobcats to a second-place finish overall.
Josh Park, Ohio
Junior – Amherst, Ohio/Marion L. Steele
Josh Park continued his strong start to the season with another second-place finish at the Tommy Evans Invitational. Park helped lead the Bobcats to a third-place finish overall.
Emma Shelton, Central Michigan
Sophomore – Minooka, Illinois/Minooka
Shelton, in her first season at CMU, led the Chippewa women for the second-consecutive week in placing third at the Northern Illinois Huskie Challenge. It was the first 6K race of Shelton's career and she finished ahead of 91 other runners.
Zachary Sleeman, Central Michigan
Sophomore – Davidson, Michigan/Davidson
Sleeman led the Chippewa men to the team title with a fifth-place finish, his best as a collegian.
Claire Steigerwald, Toledo
Sophomore – Gahanna, Ohio/Gahanna Lincoln
University of Toledo sophomore Claire Steigerwald took seventh with a time of 22:38.1 at the NIU Huskie Challenge in DeKalb, Ill. on Friday. Steigerwald's top-10 finish helped the Rockets to a second-place team finish with 56 points.
Karlie Swanson, Eastern Michigan
Senior – New South Wales, Australia/Bellingen
Karlie Swanson (New South Wales, Australia-Bellingen) took home the individual crown at the George Dales Invitational, Sept. 6, with a time of 17:20.96. The mark was seven seconds faster than teammate Emily Smith, who followed at 17:27.94. It was Swanon's first meet as an Eagle after spending the last three years at Boise State University. Overall, EMU swept the podium to capture the invitational title.
Ashley Tutt, NIU
Junior – Channahon, Illinois/Minooka
Ashley Tutt earned her second consecutive victory while helping NIU claim victory on its home course at the NIU Huskie Challenge this past Friday (Sept. 6). Tutt paced the field with a time of 21:51.2 over the six-kilometer course, winning by over 15 seconds ahead of Milwaukee’s Meg Swietlik (22:08.2). Tutt helped the Huskies capture their second-straight team title to open the season with a first-place score of 32, Toledo finished second with 56 points.
Vivian Van Eck, Ball State
Freshman – Shorewood, Illinois/Minook Community
Ball State cross country's freshman class continued to lead the way Friday at the IWU Twilight Classic, as Vivian Van Eck placed fifth overall to help guide the Cardinals to a third-place team finish on a fast IWU Cross Country Course. With just six runners in action at the second meet of the season, Ball State still manage to post impressive results with four Cardinals turning in career-best 5K times. Crossing the line first for BSU was Van Eck with a career-fast time of 18:24.7. The effort was over 30 seconds faster than her 5K time at last Friday's Butler Twilight meet.
