MUNCIE, Ind. – After 83 scoreless minutes, Tatiana Hawkins-Dabney netted a late goal to give the Ball State soccer team a thrilling 1-0 win over Illinois State Thursday night at Briner Sports Complex.

The win pushed Ball State to 3-0-0 on the season while Illinois State fell to 1-2-0. The Cardinals also extended their program best unbeaten streak to 14 matches.

"This a resilient group," said BSU head coach Josh Rife. "Credit to the girls, they battled hard today and this win was a testament to how hard they've worked. Teams that know how to win just find ways to do it. This team has a lot of belief, and they figured out how to get a difficult win against a good opponent."

Ball State tallied 10 shots on the night with five on goal while Illinois State had three shots on goal from seven total shots. The Cardinal attack earned nine corner kicks throughout the match and the defense conceded only one. Tristin Stuteville saved every shot she faced to stay perfect on the year with three clean sheets in as many contests.

Both the Cardinals and Redbirds created excellent chances throughout the entirety of the match, but both defenses and keepers held their ground to keep the match scoreless. Finally, in the 84th minute, Claudia Como passed a ball down the right side and connected with Hawkins-Dabney. Hawkins-Dabney dribbled to the top-right corner of the penalty area and drilled a high shot off the outstretched fingers of the keeper and into the back of the net for the game winner.

"We saw against Eastern Illinois that in one-on-one situations, Tatiana (Hawkins-Dabney) is capable of creating some magic like that," Rife said. "Credit to her on a great individual effort."

Ball State now takes its three-game winning streak into another home match on Sunday against Loyola. First touch is scheduled for 1 p.m. ET with live streaming available via BallStateSports.com/watch and radio play-by-play on 102.9 FM and 1340 AM.

AKRON, Ohio– Junior Aislinn Meaney's (Ennis, Ireland) stunning goal at the 65:34 mark proved to be the game-winner for the Akron women's soccer team as the Zips took down Niagara, 2-1, on Thursday night at FirstEnergy Stadium.

After an early second-half goal by the Purple Eagles knotted the game up at 1-1, the contest would remain squared for nearly the next 20 minutes. The Zips pushed the ball up the field as Meaney moved closer and closer to the Zips offensive third. Sophomore Hailey Clere (Clay, Ohio) sent a long pass from midfield up to Meaney and in stride headed towards the goal. With a defender on her tail, Meaney curled a shot from the right side of the box that landed in the top left corner for the score. The goal was Meaney's first of her career while Clere notched the first helper of her career in year two.

The Zips struck gold first in the contest in the 18' of the match. Sophomore Carly Pcholinsky (South Park, Pa.) got tangled up with the Niagara keeper and the Purple Eagles were called for a foul inside the box. Senior Ashley Amato (Pittsburgh, Pa.) stepped to the PK line, attacked, fired, and scored her first goal of the season, the 13th in her career, and the first penalty kick score of her career.

In the match, Akron totaled seven shots, including two in the first half and five in the second stanza. Meaney paced the Zips individually with a team-high three shots (one on goal), while Clere and Amato each chipped in two shots and a combined two shots on goal.

Akron won the battle of corner kicks, 3-to-2, over the Purple Eagles.

Freshman keeper Libby Harper (Hatfield, England) earned her first collegiate start against Niagara and turned in a first-half clean sheet and did not have to make a save. In the second half, freshman Vanessa Berlin (Gau-Oderheim, Germany) entered the contest as a sub and went on to corral two saves.

With the victory, Akron picked up its first win of the 2019 campaign while Niagara fell to 1-1-0.

Akron now heads to Morehead, Ky. on Sunday, Sept. 1, as the Zips go head-to-head against Morehead State at 2 p.m. from MSU Rec & Wellness Intramural field.

TOLEDO, Ohio – The Toledo women's soccer team found itself on the wrong side of the scoreboard as the Rockets (0-3-0) fell 1-0 to UIC (1-1-1) in the inaugural match at Paul Hotmer Field Thursday night.

UIC's Emma Main scored the game's only goal midway through the first half, taking advantage of the Rockets' open midfield and nailing a strong strike from nearly 35-yards out that found the back of the net.

Throughout the game, the Rockets' luck ran dry as a 10-7 shot advantage produced no goals. Freshman Stephanie Currienearly had the equalizer late in the second half, as a cross from Marcy Clark came right across the box but was just out of reach of the crafty left-footer.

BOULDER, Color. – Kent State redshirt sophomore Karly Hellstrom scored her first career goal in the 21st minute, but host Colorado fought back for a 2-1 victory on the pitch at Prentup Field on Thursday evening.

The Golden Flashes (0-1-1) controlled possession for the early portion of the match and took three corner kicks in the opening three minutes.

Kent State appeared to get on the scoreboard in the 12th minute, but an offsides call negated the goal. Just nine minutes later, junior Cameron Shedenhelm led Hellstrom with a pass towards the right side of the box. Hellstrom then lofted a shot from about 20 yards out that was just over the goalkeeper and inside of the far post for the first score allowed by Colorado (3-0-0) this season.

The Buffaloes tied the game on a header by Kayleigh Webb off their first corner kick of the night in the 37th minute.

Taylor Kornieck converted a penalty kick in the 65th minute for the game-winner.

Each team took six shots in the first half, but Colorado ended the night with a 19-10 advantage. Sophomore Khyla Porter led the Flashes with three shots.

Redshirt sophomore Faith O'Neill registered three saves for the Flashes.

Kent State will remain in the "Centennial State" and conclude the weekend at Denver on Saturday at 9 p.m. EST / 7 p.m. MST.

EAST LANSING, Mich. – The Eastern Michigan University soccer team suffered its first loss of the 2019 season, 2-0, to Michigan State University Aug. 29 at DeMartin Stadium. The game was called with just under 12 minutes remaining due to lightning.

In an evenly-matched first half, the Eagles and Spartans split possession rather evenly. Eastern saw an offensive burst 16 minutes in, firing off three shots on target in a five-minute span that were saved by the keeper for the Spartans.

Despite being edged nine-to-four in shots by the Spartans, Eastern Michigan and Michigan State ended the first half scoreless.

After the break, Michigan State's Camryn Evans broke the deadlock, scoring on a penalty kick in the 57th minute to give the Spartans the 1-0 lead.

The Eagles tried to respond in the 69th minute when Madeline Olson (Libertyville, Ill.-Libertyville) sailed a shot that deflected off the crossbar.

The Spartans doubled their lead in the 77th minute, edging a shot just over the gloves of Mabel Dunn (Oakville, Ontario-White Oaks Secondary) for the 2-0 lead.
