Bowling Green 2019 Schedule

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – Bowling Green was one of four MAC programs to introduce a new head football coach this past winter with the hopes of returning the Falcons to its recent gridiron success. During a four-year stretch from 2012-15, Bowling Green earned four consecutive bowl invitations, three MAC East Division titles and two Marathon MAC Football Championships (2013, 2015).  Bowling Green had an overall record of 36-19 (65.5%) from 2012-15, however over the last three years the program fell on hard times with a 9-27 overall record (25.0%).

Enter new head coach Scot Loeffler, who was named the 20th head coach in program history on Nov. 28, 2018.  Loeffler comes to Bowling Green after serving as Deputy Head Coach and Offensive Coordinator at Boston College. His coaching career, which spans back to the 1996 season, includes stops at Michigan, Central Michigan, Florida, Temple, Auburn, Virginia Tech and Boston College. Loeffler has coached seven quarterbacks who went on to play in the NFL – Tom Brady, Tim Tebow, Brian Griese, Chad Henne, Drew Henson, John Navarre and Logan Thomas.

Offensively, Bowling Green will look to transfer Darius Wade, junior Grant Loy and four other underclassmen to battle for the starting quarterback position.  Senior Darius Wade joined Bowling Green as a transfer and played in 25 games for Boston College from 2014-17.  Wade has five career touchdowns and completed 62-103 passes in 2017 and started the Pinstripe Bowl against Iowa.  Loy appeared in 11 games last year and threw for 180 yards and two touchdowns in limited action.

The Falcons have the luxury of four starting offensive linemen returning – Caleb Bright, Jack Kramer, Lorenzo Taborn and Matt Tanner – to pave the way for junior running back Andrew Clair, who rushed for 702 yards and five touchdowns last season.  Junior wide receiver Quintin Morris, who collected 42 receptions for 516 yards and seven touchdowns last season, will be a key offensive target.

Defensively, senior David Konowalski (missed 2018 due to injury), sophomore Karl Brooks and junior DeMontae Haigler will anchor the defensive line, while senior Jerry McBride (106 tackles), senior Jamari Bozeman (22 tackles) and sophomore Caleb Biggers (35 tackles) will lead the Falcons secondary.
