A Total of Nine MAC Student-Athletes Selected in MLB Draft
Drey Jameson, a right-hander from Greenfield, Indiana, was selected 34th overall by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the MLB Draft on Monday night. The pick was announced by Hall of Famer Randy Johnson, who won a World Series with the Diamondbacks.
Each Friday Muncie was filled with pro scouts to see Jameson, who was voted by the conference's coaches as MAC Pitcher of the Year. He set the conference record this season with 146 strikeouts, a total that ranks third nationally and he also stands fifth in strikeouts per 9 innings with a school-record 14.33. He also led the conference in starts with 16 and was fourth in the MAC in both WHIP (1.16) and hits per 9 innings (7.3).
Overall, Jameson was 6-3 with a 3.24 ERA and held opposing hitters to a .219 average. Jameson led Ball State to a 38-19 season (20-5 MAC) that included a 23-1 mark at home.

1st Round (Pick 34, Airzona Diamondbacks) -- Drey Jameson, RHP, Ball State

8th Round (Pick 235, Texas Rangers) -- John Matthews, RHP, Kent State
One of Kent State's go-to pitchers in both a starting and relief capacity, junior John Matthews led the Flashes with seven pitching wins this season. He has earned a win in each of his last four appearances. His 88 strikeouts and 25 batters struck out looking ranks third in the conference. In conference play, Matthews ranked second in wins (5), third in both opposing batting average (.203) and third in batters struck out looking (19) and fifth in strikeouts (55).
8th Round (Pick 238, New York Mets) -- Connor Wollersheim, LHP, Kent State
Wollersheim went 3-2 with a 3.10 ERA as a midweek starter during his freshman season at Kent State. He worked mostly out of the bullpen as a sophomore in 2017, finishing 2-1 with a 3.91 ERA, then went 5-2 with a 4.02 ERA while seeing action as both a starter and reliever in 2018. Wollersheim slid into the top starter role as a senior in 2019, going 6-6 with a 4.20 ERA while registering 97 strikeouts in 83 2/3 innings.
9th round (Pick 270, Philadelphia Phillies) -- Rudy Rott, 1B, Ohio
Rott was an All-American for the first time in his career after being named Preseason All-America by the same publication before the 2019 season started. Rott was also named a Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American in 2016. Earlier this season, Rott won MAC Player of the Year, becoming the first back-to-back and two-time winner of the award in the league's history. Rott was also named First Team All-MAC. During the MAC Tournament, Rott became Ohio's all-time hits leader and finished his career with 293 hits and ended his with a career .339 batting average. Rott led the Bobcats in batting average (.382), hits (81), doubles (18), home runs (10), RBI (47), slugging percentage (.618) and on-base percentage (.464). His .382 batting average was No. 28 in the nation and second in the MAC. Rott was second in the league in slugging percentage and tied for third in home runs.
21st Round (Pick 645, New York Yankees) -- Zach Kohn, RHP, Central Michigan
Kohn went 5-3 with a 4.70 earned run average in 2019, appearing in 18 games, four of them starts. In 44 innings, he struck out 47 and walked 20. His most memorable appearance, and one that came within a game that will go down in Chippewa lore, was his 2 1/3 innings of shutout relief as he closed a 6-5 win, earning the victory, in CMU's victory over Miami last week in its opening game of the Starkville Regional. Kohn struck out five, walked one, and surrendered one hit as the Chippewas overcame a 4-0 deficit and pushed across the go-ahead run in the top of the ninth inning
29th Round (Pick 861, Miami Marlins) -- John Baker, RHP, Ball State
Baker was among the best starting pitchers in the MAC, going 7-1 with a 2.33 ERA. He allowed batters to hit just .190 and led the league in ERA for much of the season. Baker also made history on May 11 when he pitched 7 innings of a combined no-hitter.
33rd Round (Pick 981, Miami Marlins) -- Zach Owings, 1B, Eastern Michigan
Owings was EMU's best offensive weapon in 2019, as he led the team in batting (.345), slugging (.527), on-base percentage (.395), stolen bases (14), runs (38), and doubles (18), as well as hits (76) and RBIs (34). The infielder also tied for the team lead in triples (five), and ranked second in home runs (four). Owings piloted the team with 26 multi-hit games, and paced the EMU lineup with seven multi-RBI games. Additionally, Owings added a 23-game reached base streak to go along with his team-best 14 game hitting streak.
33rd Round (Pick 985, Texas Rangers) -- Spencer Mraz, RHP, Miami
Mraz was Miami's regular Saturday starter in 2019. In 15 appearances (13 starts) He was 5-6 with a 4.03 ERA and 72 strikeouts in 76.0 innings pitched. The highlight of his season was a 7.1 inning performance against Bowling Green when he allowed only one hit and struck out a career-high 13 batters. Mraz has a 3.92 ERA in 48 appearances during his three-year RedHawk career.
36th Round (Pick 1072, Detroit Tigers) -- Pavin Parks, Kent State
Parks – also drafted in 2018 - excelled as a two-way player in 2019, starting all 54 games in the heart of the lineup for the Blue and Gold. He led the MAC with 11 home runs and ranked in the top-10 in the conference in both RBIs (44) and walks (36). Parks also made 16 appearances on the mound, transitioning from the infield on 15 occasions. He posted a 2-1 record with a 3.51 ERA, 32 strikeouts and two saves in 25.2 innings of work.
