MUNCIE, Indiana - After one day of competition, there is a tie at the top of each leaderboard at the 2019 Mid-American Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships.

Akron and Eastern Michigan accumulated 29 points, to sit on top of the men's team standings after two event finals.

On the women's side, Akron and Central Michigan share the top spot with 29 points through four events.

Bowling Green's Kaila Butler claimed the first title of the 2019 championships, with a loft of 63.94m (209'9") in the women's hammer throw. Ohio's Gaza Odunaiya took second at 60.22m (197'7") and BG's Aliyah Gustafson threw 57.07m (187'3") to round out the top three.

Akron's Ian Behm successfully defended his men's javelin title with a throw of 68.27m (224'0"). Eastern Michigan's Derek Ziegenfuss garnered a second-place finish at 62.4m (204'9"), while Central Michigan's Avery Joseph took third at 60.57m (198'9"). 

In the women's pole vault, Akron's Lucy Bryan set a University Track record on her way to claiming her second consecutive title, clearing the bar at 4.20m (13'9.25"). Her teammate, Abby Helminiak cleared 3.87m (12'8.25") to take second. Buffalo's Hannah Roof and Kent State's Maria Horrigan tied for third at 3.72m (12'2.50").

Miami's Danielle Collier picked up her second women's javelin title with a throw of 49.97m (163'11"). Ohio's Tajah Haley grabbed the silver at 47.34m (155'4") and Kent State's Grace Tennant took bronze in 45.26m (148'6").

In the final women's event of the day, Central Michigan's Megan O'Neil took the crown with a 34:46.53 finish in the 10,000m. Bowling Green's Rachel Walny followed in 34:53.64 and Toledo's Jennifer Lichter crossed third in 35:50.45.

On the men's side, Tevin Brown became Akron's first individual 10,000m champion, crossing the line in 31:20.78. Buffalo's Liam Hilbert finished second in 31:23.54 and Eastern Michigan's Austin Wicker took third in 31:30.97.

After five events in the men's decathlon, Kent State's TJ Lawson leads the field with 4141 points. Eastern Michigan's Skyler Lester is in second at 3696 and Akron's Malik Hudson rounds out the top three with 3696.

With four events complete in the women's heptathlon, Central Michigan's April Micheaux sits on top of the leaderboard at 3075. Akron's Sara Foster is in second with 2970 and NIU's Taylor Ramsey holds third at 2951.

Action continues tomorrow at 10:00am with the men's hammer throw. The championship will be streamed live on YouTube.
