The University of Akron Track and Field team turned in a record-setting day on the second day of the NCAA East Preliminary Round on Friday, May 24, as the Zips garnered a trio of berths into the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships with seniors Mackenzie Andrews (Toowoomba, Australia), Lucy Bryan (Bristol, England) and Abigale Wilson (Carrollton, Ohio) punching their tickets to Austin, Texas.

Junior sprinter Bryeana Byrdsong ended a highly successful stretch run to the 2019 outdoor season with a 38th-place finish in the first round of the 200m Friday evening at the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field East Preliminary Championships held at North Florida's Hodges Stadium.

Redshirt freshman Zaresha Neal flirted with a trip to the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field National Championships Friday, finishing 16th overall, as the Falcons took part in the discus on day two of competition at the NCAA East Region Preliminary meet. Neal and redshirt senior Aliyah Gustafson combined to exceed their seeds by 22 spots during competition.

Buffalo Junior Leon Atkins became the first UB Male athlete to qualify in the 800m for the NCAA Final Championships on Friday evening, as the middle-distance specialist qualified with a time of 1:49.87, finishing with the 12th fastest time in a field of 48 runners from all over the eastern United States. Atkins becomes the first UB Male athlete to qualify in the 800m event for the NCAA Final Championships.

Senior captain Allyson Goff (White Lake, Mich.-Walled Lake Northern (Georgia State)) and redshirt junior Emily Smith (Somerset, England- Wells Cathedral School) completed their 2019 outdoor seasons Friday, May 24, at the second day of the NCAA East Regional Championships hosted by University of North Florida. Smith ended her first season donning the Green and White with a career-best time in the steeplechase, while Goff earned a top-40 finish in her first-ever appearance at the East Regionals.
