AVON, Ohio – No. 1 seed Central Michigan exploded for seven runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to lead a 8-2 win over No. 2 seed Ball State on Friday night at Sprenger Stadium.
Central Michigan starter Cameron Brown threw a complete game for the win. Brown allowed two runs, one earned, and only three hits.
Central Michigan's seven runs in the seventh inning witnessed 12 Chippewas come to the plate with seven runs on five hits and three Ball State errors. Evan Kratt's single scored Garrett Navarra, Zach Heeke's single scored David Cole, Zach Gilles single scored Kratt, Griffin Lockwood-Powell's single scored Chase Rollin, Heeke scored on a fielder's choice, Gilles scored on an error and Cole's single scored Jason Sullivan.
Ball State scored quickly with two runs in the top of the first inning. Aaron Simpson walked to start the game, advanced to second and scored on a single by John Ricotta to center field. Ross Messina also walked and came around to score after a fielders choice and a throwing error for the early 2-0 lead.
Central Michigan scored in the bottom of the third to cut the lead to 2-1. Cole led off the inning being hit by a pitch and advanced after another hit batter, sacrifice bunt and throwing error to come around to score.
