AVON, Ohio – No. 1 seed Central Michigan jumped out to an early lead and rolled to a 18-9 final over No. 6 Ohio on Thursday afternoon at Sprenger Stadium. Central Michigan senior starter Pat Leatherman earned the win going 5.0 innings and giving up 3 runs.
Central Michigan scored four runs in the first as Zavier Warren homored to right center. Jacob Crum's singled up the middle to score Griffin Lockwood-Powell and Zach Gilles and Crum later scored on a wild pitch for the early 4-0 lead. The Chippewas added another run in the second inning as Jason Sullivan singled to score Gilles for a 5-0 lead.
Central Michigan added four more runs in the bottom of the third inning as Zach Heeke singled through the right side and Eric Kratt scored. With the bases loaded, Gilles was hit by a pitch to score Chase Rollin. A sacrifice fly and fielders choice added to more runs to extend the Chippewas lead to 9-0.
The Chippewas added two more in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Central Michigan will face the winner of Ball State and Northern Illinois on Friday, May 24th at 6:00 pm ET. With the loss, Ohio will return to play on Friday, May 24th at 10:00 am against Miami.
