Day 2 Results

MUNCIE, Indiana - With a total of 15 events completed at the 2019 Mid-American Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships, Kent State and Akron hold the top spot on the leaderboards for men and women, respectively.

In men's decathlon, Kent State's TJ Lawson added to his lead from day one to three-peat as MAC Champ. The junior finished the ten events with a total of 7738 points. Akron captured the 2-3 spots, with Brandon Hochbein at 6,771 and Kamar Majid at 6,760.

Akron's Sara Foster accumulated 4,808 points across seven events to capture the women's heptathlon title. Western Michigan's Allison Hufnagel finished second with a total of 4,776 points and NIU's Taylor Ramsey posted 4,736 points to complete the top three.

With an even throw of 201 feet (61.27m), Central Michigan's Logan Tarrgart defended his hammer throw title. Kent State's Jake Wickey took second with a throw of 60.59m (198'9"). Tarrgart's teammate, Connor Covert grabbed third at 56.93m (186'9").

Buffalo continues to dominate the men's shot put, with Devon Patterson throwing 17.98m (59'0") to become the Bulls 10th consecutive individual champion. Central Michigan's Kevin Weiler tossed a 17.76m (58'3.25") to take second and Kent State's Ryan Demaline finished third after a 17.62m (57'9.75") throw.

Akron's Jordan Latimer captured his third men's long jump title with a leap of 7.81m (25'7.5"). Miami's Kenny Glenn took second with a jump of 7.70m (25'3.25") and Kent State's Samory Fraga finished third at 7.42m (24'4.25").

Bowling Green's Aliyah Gustafson picked up her third women's shot put title with a throw of 17.20m (56'5.25"). Akron's Abigale Wilson podiumed second at 15.70m (51'6.25") and Kent State's Gabrielle Bailey took third with a 15.67m (51'5") throw.

Central Michigan went 1-2 in the women's long jump. Nadia Williams successfully defended her long jump title from the indoor season with a leap of 6.54m (21'5.50") to sit on top of the outdoor podium. Janelle Perry jumped 6.18m (20'3.50") to land second and NIU's Jehvania Whyte placed third at 5.96m (19'6.75").

In the 3000m steeplechase, the Akron women finished 1-2. Mackenzie Andrews crossed first in 10:26.74 and Haley Hess followed in 10:31.05. Toledo's Olivia Chinn took third with a time of 10:34.90. 

On the men's side, Miami's Chris Torpy took the steeplechase title in 9:00.32. Kent State's Clark Bookman crossed second in 9:02.91 and Torpy's teammate Matt Bromley finished third in 9:05.42.

Preliminaries trials for short and mid-distance running events also took place throughout the day.
 
The final day of competition begins at 11:00 am on Saturday with the men's discus, men's high jump and women's triple jump. At 1:00 pm running events will commence with the 4x100m relay. Day three action will be streamed live on YouTube.
