KENT, Ohio-
Kent State women's golfer Karoline Stormo has qualified for the 2019 U.S. Women's Open Championship, which will be played at the Country Club of Charleston, S.C. from May 30-June 2.

The junior claimed one of two qualifying spots out at the Springfield, Va. sectional qualifier at the Springfield Golf and Country Club on April 30. After carding a 74 during the morning's opening round, Stormo fired a 70 in the afternoon and finished runner-up with a two-round total of 144.

Two berths in the championship were up for grabs in Springfield, as Amanda Hollandsworth of Virginia Tech won the tournament with a 1-under 141 and claimed the second spot.

This will be the second time a Kent State golfer has qualified for the U.S. Women's Open. Former Flash Kirby Dreher made program history in 2010 by becoming the first Golden Flash to earn a spot in the championship.

Stormo and the Flashes will travel to East Lansing, Mich. over the weekend to compete in the NCAA East Lansing Regional May 6-8 at the Forest Akers West Golf Course.
