NCAA RECOGNIZES All 12 MAC ATHLETIC PROGRAMS FOR MULTI-YEAR ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE, INCLUDING 38 TEAMS ACROSS 14 SPORTS

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The NCAA announced the public recognition for outstanding academic performance to all 12 athletic programs from the Mid-American Conference (MAC), which includes a total of 38 different teams recognized across 14 sports. Full NCAA Release.

Based on their most recent multi-year Academic Progress Report (APR), these 38 MAC teams have earned NCAA Public Recognition Awards for posting scores in the top 10 percent of their sport. The APR is an annual scorecard of academic achievement calculated for all Division I sports teams nationally. The scores required to be in the top 10 ranged from 985 to a perfect 1,000, depending on the sport.

Miami led the way in the MAC and was recognized in five sports (men's golf; volleyball; women's basketball; women's swimming & diving; women's tennis), while Bowling Green (gymnastics; men's cross country; men's golf; women's golf), Central Michigan (softball; women's basketball; women's golf; women's soccer) and Kent State (gymnastics; men's cross country; softball; women's golf) were each honored in four sports.

Akron (women's cross country; women's golf; women's tennis), Northern Illinois (men's tennis; softball; volleyball), Ohio (women's basketball; women's cross country; women's golf) and Toledo (men's tennis, women's golf; women's tennis) all had three sports recognized, while Ball State (women's cross country; women's tennis) and Eastern Michigan (volleyball; women's golf) were honored in two sports.  Buffalo (women's tennis), Western Michigan (gymnastics) and affiliate members Binghamton (men's tennis), Longwood (field hockey) and Missouri State (men's swimming & diving) each received recognition as well.

The APR measures eligibility, graduation and retention each term and provides a clear picture of the academic performance for each team in every sport. The most recent APRs are multiyear rates based on scores from the 2014-15, 2015-16, 2016-17 and 2017-18 academic years. The APR provided a real-time look at a team’s academic success each semester by tracking the academic progress of each student-athlete on scholarship.  The APR accounts for eligibility, retention and graduation and provides a measure of each team’s academic performance.
