Men’s Track Athlete of the Week
Shane Moffo, Central Michigan, 110 Hurdles
Senior – Farmington Hills, Michigan/Walled Lake Western
Central Michigan senior hurdler Shane Moffo posted another season-best performance this past weekend as the Chippewas competed in UVA's Virginia Challenge. The Farmington Hills, Mich., native clocked a 13.87 to bring home first in the men's 110m hurdles. Moffo's time ranks No.1 on the MAC leader board and is good for the No.21 in the NCAA.
Women’s Track Athlete of the Week
Erin Dowd, Western Michigan, 100/400 Hurdles
Junior – Brighton, Michigan/Brighton
Dowd ran a personal-best time of 57.87 seconds in the 400-meter hurdles to take second collegiately and third overall at the Mt. SAC Relays. Dowd's time was also the second-fastest in program history, knocking WMU All-American Phyllis Brooks down to third. Her time is tops in the MAC by nearly two seconds and also ranks ninth on the NCAA East Preliminary qualifying list, and 12th overall in the nation. Dowd is the highest-ranked MAC track athlete in any running event.
Men’s Field Athlete of the Week
Jordan Latimer, Akron, Long Jump
Senior – Huber Heights, Ohio/Wayne
Akron senior Jordan Latimer equaled a career-best mark of 26-3.75 (8.02m) en route to winning the men's long jump with the fifth-longest mark in the NCAA this season at the Beach Invitational on April 20. Latimer's performance is the No. 2 mark in outdoor program history.
Women’s Field Athlete of the Week
Janelle Perry, Central Michigan, Long Jump
Senior - Akron, Ohio/Firestone
Central Michigan senior jumper Janelle Perry had a career day this past weekend as the Chippewas traveled to Charlottesville, Va., to participate in UVA's Virginia Challenge. The Akron, Ohio. native turned in a career-best 6.46m wind-aided leap to place first in the women's long jump. Her mark puts her in the No.1 spot in the MAC ranking and is tied for the No.6 spot in the NCAA. Perry also recorded a 6.29m wind-legal jump which broke the school record for the second straight week. Perry also brought home a fifth-place finish in the 100m hurdles clocking a 13.34.

Mackenzie Andrews, Akron, Steeplechase
Senior -Toowoomba, Australia/Fairholme
University of Akron senior Mackenzie Andrews registered a school-record time of 10:12.72 to place fourth in the women's 3,000-meter invitational steeplechase on the second day of the Mt. Sac Relays hosted by Mt. San Antonio College on April 19. Two weeks after running the initial steeplechase of her collegiate career, Andrews posted the top time by a collegian in the event. On the strength of the 22nd-fastest time in the NCAA this season, Andrews bettered the school-record time of 10:17.80 set by Cassie Schenck on May 27, 2011. Additionally, she registered a third-place finish in the women's 800 meters at the Beach Invitational on April 20 crossing the line in 2:08.55.
Leon Atkins, Buffalo, 800
Junior – Auburn, New York/Auburn
At the Princeton Larry Ellis Invitational, Leon Atkins won the Elite 800m, beating several professional runners and setting a new lifetime best mark of 1:49.56. Leon’s time is FIRST in the MAC, #24 in the NCAA East Region, and #51 in the entire NCAA.
Olivia Bechtel, Miami, 200
Junior – Bay Village, Ohio/Bay
Miami sprinter Olivia Bechtel continued her outstanding junior campaign Saturday with a personal-best 23.71 run in the 200m at the Virginia Challenge that earned her a third-place finish. In addition, Bechtel also ran a 55.12 to finish fourth in the 400m. Bechtel is the current Miami leader on the season in the 100, 200, and 400 while also leading the MAC in the 400.
Tevin Brown, Akron, 10000
R-Junior – Toledo, Ohio/St. John's
University of Akron redshirt junior Tevin Brown registered a school-record time of 30:06.41 in the men's 10,000 meters at the Mt. Sac Relays hosted by Mt. San Antonio College on Thursday, April 18. Brown finished fifth in the event en route to besting the school-record time of 30:10.65 set by Jason Headman on April 17, 2009.
Lucy Bryan, Akron, Pole Vault
Senior – Bristol, England/Clifton
Akron senior Lucy Bryan turned in a strong week for the Zips registering a pair of top-three performances in the women's pole vault, including earning the victory at the Pacific Coast Intercollegiate on April 18 with a mark of 14-3.25 (4.35m). Bryan won the women's pole vault eclipsing 14-3.25 (4.35m) at the Pacific Coast Intercollegiate hosted by Long Beach State on Thursday, April 18. Later in the week, in a battle of three of the top six pole vaulters in the country, Bryan placed third in the women's pole vault at the Beach Invitational on April 20 surpassing 14-1.75 (4.31m). She finished behind only Olivia Gruver (Washington) and Bonnie Draxler (San Diego State), the top-two rated vaulters in the country this season.
Mackenzie Callahan, NIU, 15000
Sophomore – Minooka, Illinois/Minooka
Mackenzie Callahan ran a personal-best time of 4:25.65 in the 1,500 meters against an elite field at the Bryan Clay Invitational. The NIU sophomore took fourth in her heat as she posted the fourth-best time in the MAC this season.
Princess Carter, Ball State, Discus
Sophomore – Indianapolis, Indiana/Lawrence North
Sophomore Princess Carter etched her name in the Ball State record books at the UK Outdoor Track & Field Complex, collecting the fourth-best individual mark in program history in the discus at 45.99m.
Danielle Collier, Miami, Javelin
Junior – Hermitage, PA/Hickory
Collier won yet another javelin event this past weekend, taking the win at the Virginia Challenge at UVA. She put up a distance of 51.59m en route to the victory. The redshirt junior is the MAC leader in the event by nearly seven full meters and currently ranks 12th in the nation.
Katie Dewey, Toledo, Shot Put/Discus
Senior – Jerry City, Ohio/Elmwood
Senior Katie Dewey garnered first-place finishes in the shot put and discus events at the RedHawk Invitational on Saturday. In the shot put, Dewey posted a mark of 14.76m. In the discus event, Dewey recorded a throw of 46.01m, a mere 2.88 meters from her personal best. Dewey is ranked eighth in the MAC and 99th in the NCAA for shot put. For discus, Dewey ranks seventh in the MAC and 106th in the NCAA.
Talia Falco, Kent State, High Jump
Senior – Lakewood Ranch, Florida/Lakewood Ranch
Competing in the high jump at an outdoor competition for the first time in just under a year, Talia Falco cleared a personal-best height of 5'-7.75" (1.72m) to finish third at the Virginia Challenge. Falco’s mark ranks second in the MAC this season and is 10th in the Kent State record book. Teammate Alyssa Matheny is the only other competitor in the conference to clear the bar at higher than 5’-7” (1.70m).
Kenny Glenn, Miami, Long Jump
Senior – Mt. Healthy, Ohio/Mt. Healthy
Glenn, Miami's school record holder in the long jump, had another good showing in the event Saturday at the University of Virginia. The senior took fifth in the elite invitational section of the event, hitting a mark of 7.60m. Glenn ranks third in the MAC and 35th nationally.
Aliyah Gustafson, Bowling Green, Shot Put
R-Senior – Iowa City, Iowa/Iowa City
Aliyah Gustafson threw a season-best in the shot put, posting a mark of 56-feet-7.5 (17.26m) for the top collegiate effort at the Virginia Challenge. Gustafson's throw ranks sixth in the country and is the fourth-best performance in BGSU program history (Gustafson owns each of the top three). A three-time MAC shot put champion; Gustafson leads the conference by more than three feet during the 2019 outdoor season.
Nautica Hill, Toledo, 100/200
Senior – Warren, Ohio/Warren
Senior Nautica Hill clocked personal-bests in the 100 meters and 200 meters at the Bryan Clay Invitational hosted by Azusa Pacific in Azusa, Calif. on Friday. Hill posted a MAC automatic qualifying time of 24.24 in the 200 meters, taking 17th. In the 100 meters, Hill stopped the clock at 11.91, landing 25th overall. Hill ranks ninth in the MAC and 261st in the NCAA for the 100m. For the 200m, Hill is ranked 9th in the MAC and 248th in the NCAA.
Molly McCreedy, Buffalo, Discus
Freshman – Plainfield, Vermont/U-32 High
Freshman Molly McCreedy won the Women’s Elite Discus competition at the Ashland Alumni Open with a big personal best mark of 46.58m/152’10”. The new mark moves her up to #9 in the MAC and is also a new UB freshman record in the discus throw event.
Sydney Meyers, Eastern Michigan, 1500/5000
Senior -Zionsville, Indiana/Zionsville Community
Eastern Michigan senior captain Sydney Meyers had a record-setting weekend at the Bryan Clay Invitational, April 18-19. On Thursday, Meyers captured a 14th-place effort in Heat 1 of the 5000m, recording a time of 16:08.63. The Zionsville, Ind. native's efforts bested her own top performance by almost six seconds, as she continues to hold the third-best 5000m run in program history. Additionally, Meyers' performance is currently the second-best run in the MAC and the 26th-best performance seen in the nation this season. Friday saw the EMU captain finish 27th overall with a time of 4:21.59 in the 1500m, just .36 seconds off her career-best effort. Her time is the third-best run by a Mid-American Conference athlete and 48th-fastest performance by an NCAA runner in the 2019 outdoor season.
Megan O’Neil, Central Michigan, 5000
Senior – Stanwood, Michigan/Morley Standwood
Central Michigan senior distance runner Megan O'Neil had a season-best performance this past weekend as the Chippewas competed in UVA's Virginia Challenge. The Stanwood, Mich., native placed 12th in the women's 5,000-meter run clocking a 16:23.04, the second-fastest time in program history. O'Neil's time is good for 3rd in the MAC, 45th in the East Region and 85th in the NCAA.
Erica Sheahan, Western Michigan, Long Jump
Junior – Ithaca, Michigan/Ithaca
Sheahan had a season-best distance of 19' 3.5" (5.88m) to take eighth overall in the long jump at the Mt. SAC Relays on Friday. Sheahan's jump now places her third in the MAC.
Logan Targgart, Central Michigan, Hammer Throw
Junior – Coldwater, Michigan/Coldwater
Central Michigan junior thrower Logan Targgart posted another career-best this past weekend as the Chippewas traveled to Charlottesville, Va., to compete in UVA's Virginia Challenge. The Coldwater, Mich., native place 6th in the men's hammer throw with a 64.45m toss. Targgart's mark ranks No.1 in the MAC, No.15 in the East Region and is good for No.30 in the NCAA.
Emmalyne Tarsa, Ball State, Steeplechase
Sophomore – Travers City, Michigan/St. Francis
Sophomore Emmalyne Tarsa turned in another impressive effort in the 3000m steeplechase at the Kentucky Open, as she earned a MAC auto mark in the event by placing fifth at 10:52.23. The effort also improved her hold on the third spot on Ball State's individual record chart.
Sean Torpy, Miami, 1500
Junior – Orland Park, Illinois/Carl Sandburg
Torpy ran a big 3:44.24 mark in the 1500m at Saturday's Virginia Challenge, taking second in the 43-runner field. The run was a personal best for the junior, who holds team-best marks in the 800, 1500, and 5000. Torpy's run puts him on top of the MAC in the event, while he also sits in the top-30 nationally. Torpy finished just ahead of his brother Chris, who came in third in the same race.
Amy Villarini, Buffalo, 400
Senior- Hamburg, New York/Hamburg
At the Princeton Larry Ellis Invitational, Amy placed 5th overall of 32 competitors running a lifetime best of 55.82 in the 400m race. Villarini's time clips off nearly one second from her previous season’s best and moves her up to #9 in the MAC. Amy was also part of the 4 x 100m squad that ran a 46.77, placing 4th in a very competitive field.
Jehvania Whyte, NIU, Triple Jump
Senior – Kingston, Jamaica/Vera Technical
NIU senior Jehvania Whyte took fourth-place in the triple jump at the Michael Johnson Invitational, third among collegiate competitors. The Huskie All-American measured over 13 meters on three of her six jumps, including 13.08m (42-11.00) on her final attempt to take fourth in the meet. Whyte is the only triple jumper in the MAC to go over 13 meters this season and ranks 13th nationally this season.
Sam Wray, Buffalo, Discus/Hammer
Junior – Lockport, New York/Starpoint
Wray placed second in the men’s elite discus throw at the Ashland Alumni Open in a new season’s best mark of 52.51m/172’3”. This ranks Sam #36 in the NCAA East Region, and #2 in the MAC, hitting the MAC automatic qualifying mark. Sam also won the Men’s open Hammer Throw with a new Lifetime best mark of 57.87m/189’10”, earning the MAC Automatic qualifying standard and ranking #3 in the MAC.
Nicole Yeargin, Kent State, 200
Junior – Bowie, Maryland/Bishop McNamara
Nicole Yeargin ran a personal-best 54.00 to place second in the 400-meter dash Saturday at the Virginia Challenge. Yeargin’s time is the second-fastest in the MAC this season and ranks fourth in the Kent State record book. The junior also owns the conference’s top times in the 100m and 200m.
