AKRON, Ohio– Senior Laura Lakins (Akron, Ohio) big day at the plate including a walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh inning in game one and a three-run home run in the game two, helped lead the Akron softball team to its first Mid-American Conference victory over Buffalo, 4-3, as the Zips split the twinbill to open the three-game series against the Bulls on Tuesday afternoon at Lee Jackson Field.

DEKALB, Ill. – The Northern Illinois University softball team won its home opener against Ball State, 7-6, before falling to the Cardinals, 7-5, in nine innings in the nightcap at Mary M. Bell Field Tuesday.

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – A different game, a different story. Central Michigan jumped out to a 10-2 lead in the nightcap on Tuesday in turning the tables on Western Michigan in claiming an 11-3 victory to earn a split of a Mid-American Conference softball doubleheader at Margo Jonker Stadium. The Broncos won the opener, 12-5. CMU is 13-18-1, 4-3-1 MAC. Western is 10-14, 3-1.

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Miami University softball team (18-12, 3-2 MAC) dominated the doubleheader against Bowling Green (13-19, 1-6 MAC) on Tuesday. Miami took the first game by a 10-2 margin in six innings before winning the second game by a 7-2 margin.
