Pittsburgh, Pa. – The Kent State (19-20) offense blitzed Panther pitching and pitcher Andrea Scali fired a shutout as the Golden Flashes defeated Pitt (7-37) in run-rule fashion, 10-0 in five innings, on Tuesday evening in Pittsburgh. The Golden Flashes picked up their fifth win this year versus a Power 5 conference school and now have wins this season against the ACC, Big 10 and Big 12.

"We had a good day today at the field and it's always good to beat a Power 5 school and regional rival," said Kent State Head Coach Eric Oakley. "Another solid outing by Scali and we spread the offense around and got key hits with runners in scoring position. Nice job by Hunter Brancifort, Maria Cegledy, Megan Turner and Kristyn Eckl all getting big hits. Jen Cader looked good at leadoff and it was a solid day all around."
How it Happened

In the third with the bases loaded and two outs, pinch hitter Kristyn Ecklsmoked a ball back through the box to plate two runs. KSU scored another in the frame as Vanessa Vodan swiped second and drew a throw that went into centerfield that allowed Brancifort to score.

In the fourth, Maria Cegledy drove a ball that was misplayed by a throwing error by the pitcher that allowed a run to score. Megan Turner then hit a towering three-run tater to left, her second in as many games, to put the Flashes up 10-0.

Scali (14-7) fired a shutout for the third time in the last four games and only allowed two hits with eight strikeouts in five innings. Taylor Rahach (0-9) took the loss and allowed three earned runs in 1.2 innings.
