AKRON, Ohio– The Ohio softball team (26-16, 7-6 MAC) returned to action on Friday (April 12) to take on Mid-American Conference foe Akron (8-23-2, 2-10 MAC), defeating the Zips, 9-4, and snapping their four-game losing streak. 

The Bobcats struck first in the top of the first inning. With one out, sophomore Katie Yun (North Canton, Ohio) was hit by a pitch and then would steal second. With two outs, senior Morgan Geno (Chillicothe, Ohio) would be intentionally walked to put runners on first and second. Senior Alex Day (Hilliard, Ohio) would then take the first pitch she saw and drive it off the left field wall, scoring Yun and giving Ohio a 1-0 lead after the first half inning of play.

BOWLING GREEN, OH – The University at Buffalo softball team defeated Bowling Green 11-9 in the series opener at Meserve Field on Friday afternoon. With the win the Bulls improve to 8-23-1 on the year, 5-3-1 in league play.

The Bulls struck first as Jenelle Martinez slapped a two-out single past the diving short stop and Alicia Petersblasted a home run to deep center field to give UB an early 2-0 lead.

DEKALB, Ill. – A three-run double by Katie Lamich proved to be the difference as the Northern Illinois University softball team earned a 6-5 series opening win over Toledo at Mary M. Bell Field Friday.

All six of NIU's runs were scored with two outs and the Huskie pitching staff was able to avoid the big inning and pitch out of a pair of bases loaded jams.

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - - Sophomore designated player Kendall Fields opened the scoring with a two-out, first-inning grand slam and freshman Tieghan Morio threw six solid innings of relief to help lead the Ball State softball team to a 7-5 victory at Western Michigan's Ebert Field Friday afternoon.
 
Of the 12 runs scored in the Mid-American Conference three-game series opener, 11 came in the first inning. Thankfully, seven of those were with two outs in the top of the first as the Cardinals (28-14; 6-4 MAC) pulled ahead 7-0.

KENT, Ohio – Andrea Scali threw her sixth shutout of the season and both Bailey and Brenna Brownfielddrove in all three of Kent State's (18-18, 8-2 MAC) runs in a 3-0 victory over Miami (21-14, 6-4 MAC) on Friday afternoon at the Diamond at Dix. The Golden Flashes' 8-2 start to league play is the best since the 2015 season.
