Hudson & Duncan Named Scholar-Athletes of the Week
Male Scholar Athlete of the Week: February 25th – March 3rd, 2019
Western Michigan's Logan Hudson, Baseball (R-Sophomore, 3.64, Accounting)
Through nine games this season Logan Hudson leads the Broncos with a .500 batting average including hitting .556 over the weekend at South Florida. Hudson registered at leads one hit in two of the three games played against the Bulls and had one double in game two and three. In the series finale on Sunday, Hudson had a career day going 4-for-5 at the plate with a career-high six RBI’s. Hudson alone scored six of the Broncos’ nine runs in game three, including a bases clearing double in the top of the ninth against USF. Hudson’s six RBI’s was three shy of the program record and the most by a Bronco since Nate Grys had seven last season vs. Northwestern. The redshirt sophomore became the second Bronco this season to have a game with at least four RBIs. To begin game three on Sunday, Hudson hit his second home run of the season, marking the fifth straight game WMU has had a home run.
Female Scholar Athlete of the Week: February 25th – March 3rd, 2019
Eastern Michigan's Delaney Duncan, Swimming and Diving (Senior, 3.71, Marketing)
Eastern Michigan senior Delaney Duncan was named the 2019 MAC Most Outstanding Swimmer a record-shattering overall performance at the Mid-American Conference Swimming and Diving Championships, Feb. 27- March 2 hosted by the University of Akron. Throughout the weekend, Duncan became the first female swimmer in conference history to win the 100 Breaststroke four times with an NCAA ‘A’ cut time, school record, conference record, and personal-best swim of 58.25. Furthermore, she became the only swimmer in Eastern Michigan history to qualify for the NCAA Championships four times. Duncan also earned the conference’s 200 Breaststroke title with an NCAA ‘B’ cut time of 2:07.38. For her weekend’s efforts, Duncan earned the conference’s Outstanding Senior award, voted on by the conference’s swimming and diving team coaches to recognize the most exceptional senior swimmer, while also being named All-MAC First Team and the MAC’s Most Outstanding Swimmer of the Year.
