MAC Announces First Outdoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week
Men’s Track Athlete of the Week
Tyler Underwood, Eastern Michigan, 400
Senior – Clinton, Michigan/Clinton
Senior Tyler Underwood led the Eastern Michigan University men's track and field team off to a strong start to its outdoor campaign March 16, at the Yellow Jacket Invitational hosted by Georgia Tech University in Atlanta, Ga. Underwood continued his success from the indoor season to his outdoor debut, earning a first-place finish in the 400m with a conference-topping effort of 46.85. He followed his individual event title running a leg of the Eagles' podium-topping 4x100m relay effort, besting teams from the University of North Carolina and Kennesaw State University with a time of 40.62. His 400m time is currently the fifth-best time by an NCAA athlete, while EMU's 4x100m relay finish is ranked 18th nationwide.
Women’s Track Athlete of the Week
Micah Johnston, Eastern Michigan, 200/400
Junior – Toledo, Ohio/Toledo Christian
Eastern Michigan junior Micah Johnston saw great success in her outdoor track and field debut March 16, at the Yellow Jacket Invitational hosted by Georgia Tech University in Atlanta, Ga. Johnston ran a leg of the Eagles’ silver-medal performance in the 4x100m Relay, crossing the finishing line in 45.38. The squad bested relay groups from Clemson University and the University of Pittsburgh on its way to a second-place finish and a spot in the Eastern Michigan record books, running the seventh-fastest 4x100m Relay time in program history. EMU’s relay effort is also the fastest by any Mid-American Conference squad this season and ranks in the top-15 performances nationally. Johnston also earned second overall in the 400m, where her time of 54.65 was just .27 off the lead. Her efforts topped runners from Clemson University, Dartmouth University, and host Georgia Tech. The Toledo, Ohio native also placed seventh in the 200m, the best finish of any Eagle with a time of 24.74. Both her 200m and 400m efforts are the best by a Mid-American Conference athlete this season, and her 400m time is the 13th-best time ran by an NCAA athlete in 2019.
Men’s Field Athlete of the Week
Cameron Hart, Eastern Michigan, Long Jump/High Jump
Senior – Columbus, Ohio/Bishop Hartley
Senior Cameron Hart started off his final outdoor track and field season in the Green and White with an event title in the Long Jump March 16, at the Yellow Jacket Invitational hosted by Georgia Tech University in Atlanta, Ga. The Columbus, Ohio native snagged the Long Jump title with a leap clearing 7.15m, the best by a Mid-American Conference athlete this outdoor season. Hart also earned a fourth-place finish in the high jump with a mark of 1.95m.
Women’s Field Athlete of the Week
Kelsey Walters, Ball State, Shot Put
Junior – Troy, Ohio/Troy
Junior Kelsey Walters won the shot put at the Stan Lyons Invitational with a mark of 14.02m. It's currently the best mark in the MAC and ranks 57th nationally.

Sophomore – Garfield Heights, Ohio/Lutheran West
Sophomore sprinter MaQuila Norman helped guide the Ball State track & field team to a first-place showing at the Stan Lyons Invitational by taking home top honors in both the 200m (24.95) and 400m (1:00.65).
Allyson Goff, Eastern Michigan, Long Jump
Senior – White Lake, Michigan/Walled Lake Northern
Eastern Michigan senior Allyson Goff earned a podium finish in her outdoor track and field debut March 16, at the Yellow Jacket Invitational hosted by Georgia Tech University in Atlanta, Ga. Goff cleared 5.56m on her way to her third-place finish, the third-furthest jump this season by a conference athlete and ranked within the top-100 nationwide. The White Lake, Mich. native also earned a top-15 finish in the 100m Hurdles, clearing the obstacles in 14.47, the third best time in the Mid-American Conference and 101st in the NCAA.
