Male Scholar Athlete of the Week: March 11th – March 17th, 2019
Ball State's Chris Adams, Tennis (Sophomore, 4.0, Business Administration)
Chris Adams opened the Mid-American Conference weekend for the Cardinals with two wins. He started Friday off with a three-set thriller over Western Michigan's Jack Randall at the No. 4 position. Adams then took down Northern Illinois' Mikko Malinen also in three sets on court four Sunday afternoon, clinching match point for Ball State. Adams has won six-straight dating back to March 4. He also competes in doubles with teammate Conner Andersen. The twosome clinched the doubles point on court three against NIU, 6-4.
Female Scholar Athlete of the Week: March 11th – March 17th, 2019
Bowling Green's Nikki Sorgi, Softball (Sophomore, 4.000, Health Science)
Bowling Green sophomore infielder Nikki Sorgi hit .444 as the Falcons went a perfect 6-0 last week. Sorgi was 8-for-18 at the plate with an on-base percentage of .500 and a slugging pct. of .889. She had two doubles and two home runs among those eight hits, and scored six runs. Sorgi was 2-for-3 with a homer and two runs scored against Oakland on Wednesday, and she walked twice and scored twice in Saturday’s run-rule win over St. Bonaventure. On Sunday, she was a perfect 6-for-6 in a pair of BGSU wins, going 3-for-3 vs. both SBU and Morehead State at the latter school’s MSU Classic. She had two doubles among her three hits vs. the Bonnies, then had another homer in the win over MSU. The Falcons scored 64 runs in last week’s six wins, including 50 in the four games at the MSU Classic. On the season, Sorgi is hitting .353, and she has already topped her totals for all of 2018 in nearly every hitting category. She has eight extra-base hits this season after totaling one as a freshman.
