CLEVELAND, OH – No. 1 seed Buffalo used clutch shooting by CJ Massinburg down the stretch to overcome No. 5 Central Michigan with a 85-81 win in the MAC Men's Basketball Tournament, presented by Visit Myrtle Beach, Semifinal action on Friday, March 15 at Quicken Loans Arena.
Massinburg's two free throws with 1:13 left, a driving layup with 31 seconds and two free throws both with 15.5 seconds and 6.8 seconds left in regulation lifted the Bulls to the 85-81 win.
Central Michigan was strong throughout the start and led 42-37 at the half. The Chippewas opened an eight-point lead at 14:02 of the second half with a 61-53 lead. However, Buffalo went on a 19-9 run as Jeremy Harris nailed a three-pointer to give the Bulls a 72-70 lead with 7:46 left in the second half.
Buffalo was led by Massinburg with 19 points, while junior guard Davonte Jordan had 16 points and junior forward Nick Perkins with 14 points.
Central Michigan was led by forward Rob Montgomery with 17 pionts, while senior guard Shawn Roundtree Jr. had 16 points
and senior guard Larry Austin Jr. added 16 points as well.
Buffalo will play the winner of No. 3 Bowling Green and No. 7 Northern Illinois contest in the MAC Championship Game on Saturday, March 16 at 7:30 pm ET on ESPN2.
