CLEVELAND -- The Miami University women's basketball team (23-7, 13-5 MAC) beat No. 6 Toledo (20-11, 11-7 MAC) by a 72-54 margin in the MAC Quarterfinals on Wednesday.
Lauren Dickerson and Savannah Kluesner each had a 20-point game. This is Dickerson's 10th game of the season passing 20 points while it's Kluesner's sixth. Leah Purvis also scored in double figures with 13 points.
Miami started the game on a 10-2 run, including two three-pointers and eight total points from Purvis.
Toledo scored back-to-back baskets to cut the RedHawks' lead to three points at the first media timeout as Miami led the game 10-7.
After the media timeout, Kluesner scored eight-straight points for the RedHawks, giving Miami an 18-9 lead with two minutes to play in the quarter.
Toledo closed the quarter with a basket with mere seconds remaining. Miami led the game by an 18-11 margin after 10 minutes of play.
The Rockets scored the first five points of the second quarter to cut Miami's lead to 18-16. The teams traded baskets for the next few minutes as the RedHawks continued to lead by one or two possessions until Kluesner went on an 8-0 by herself to open up a 30-20 lead for the RedHawks with 3:14 to play in the first half.
The Rockets scored back-to-back possessions before Purvis sunk her third from long range to reach double figures with 11 first-half points.
Baleigh Reid got one to fall at the first-half buzzer. The RedHawks took a 35-24 into the locker room.
After Miami opened a 39-26 lead to start the second half, Toledo went on a 6-0 run to cut Miami's lead to seven points with six minutes to play in the quarter. The RedHawks held a 10-point lead at the third quarter media timeout, leading 43-33.
Dickerson sunk her first three-pointer of the game out of the media timeout to give Miami a 46-33 lead with 3:31 to play in the third quarter.
Dickerson heated up with another three-pointer and a jumper before the third quarter was over.
Miami held a 52-37 advantage after three quarters of play.
The teams traded baskets to begin the fourth quarter as Kendall McCoy hit her first shot from behind the arc to give Miami a 57-41 lead with 6:44 to play.
Free throws closed out the game as Miami capped scoring at 72-54 with a free throw from Kenzie Schmitz.
Miami will face No. 2 Ohio in the MAC Semifinals on Friday. Tip-off will be 30 minutes following the conclusion of the 11 a.m. game.
