No. 9 Eastern Michigan 61, No. 8 Akron 59 // Box Score
A jumper in the paint by redshirt senior Danielle Minott (Miami, Fla.-Miami Country Day (Syracuse)) with 2.9 seconds left completed a double-digit comeback for the Eastern Michigan University women's basketball team as they finalized an upset win over eighth-seeded University of Akron Monday, March 11, in the opening round of Mid-American Conference Tournament play inside James A. Rhodes Arena. The No. 9 Eagles trailed by as many as 10 in the second half, but held the Zips without a field goal for a six-minute stretch en route to a thrilling 61-59 win. A trio of free throws by Minott and a layup by Akron gave Eastern its largest lead of the game, 59-56, with 19 seconds to go. A huge triple by UA's Megan Sefcik tied the game up at 59 all, making way for Minott's late-game heroics. With no timeouts, the Eagles inbound the ball to Minott who quickly made her way to the lane for the game-winning shot with 2.9 seconds to go, keeping Eastern's season alive and earning the Eagles a trip to Cleveland for the second straight season.

No. 5 Kent State 86, No. 12 Bowling Green 62 // Box Score
Senior Merissa Barber-Smith grabbed a career-high 20 rebounds and scored 10 points as Kent State extended its season with an 86-62 victory over Bowling Green on Monday evening in a Mid-American Conference Women's Basketball Tournament first round game. Playing inside of the M.A.C. Center for possibly the final time, Barber-Smith grabbed nine offensive rebounds to help the Golden Flashes total 19 second-chance points. No Kent State players has totaled more than 20 rebounds since Tracey Lynn had 23 on Feb, 8, 1992. The 6'4" center shot 4-for-5 from the floor and blocked three shots.

No. 7 Northern Illinois 70, No. 10 Western Michigan 69 // Box Score
Mikayla Voigt's (Slinger, Wis./Kettle Moraine Lutheran) layup with 4.4 seconds left in regulation proved to be the game-winner as the Northern Illinois University women's basketball team defeated the Western Michigan Broncos 70-69 at the NIU Convocation Center in the first round of the 2019 Mid-American Conference Tournament. "I think you saw two really good teams tonight with a lot on the line, what you would expect in tournament play," said head coach Lisa Carlsen. "It was a possession-for-possession ballgame. We were lucky enough to come out on top and we're excited to be able to advance. As long as you come out on top this time of year, that's most important."

Senior Kaayla McIntyre scored 19 points and sophomore Nakiah Black added 16 as No. 6 seed Toledo defeated No. 11 seed Ball State, 67-63, in first-round action of the Mid-American Conference Women's Basketball Tournament on Monday before 4,059 fans in Savage Arena. Toledo (20-10) advances to play No. 3 seed Miami (22-7) in quarterfinal action at Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland on Wednesday.
