CLINTON, S.C. – The 2019 Akron softball campaign is officially underway as the first pitch of the season was thrown at the Blue Hose Invitational where the Zips offense came alive scoring a combined 18 runs on the day to earn its first victory of the season over Morgan State and a draw to tournament host Presbyterian College.

FT. MYERS, Fla.- - Powered by a six-run fourth inning, the Ball State softball team opened the 2019 season with a 7-4 victory over LIU Brooklyn Friday morning in the opening game of the FGCU Kickoff Classic. Unfortunately, the Cardinals (1-1) could not carry over the momentum into the nightcap, suffering a 10-2 (6) loss to Penn State at the FGCU Softball Complex.

Buffalo

FULLERTON, CALIF. - The University at Buffalo softball team opened the 2019 season with a pair of defeats at the Titan Classic on Friday. UB fell by the score of 11-0 in the opening game of the season against University of the Pacific before dropping a close 5-4 contest to the host Cal State Fullerton Titans in extra innings in the second game of the day.

Central Michigan

MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. – The Central Michigan softball team opened the 2019 season with a pair of losses on Friday in the College of Charleston Cougar Classic at the College of Charleston Softball Stadium. The Chippewas return to action in the Cougar Classic on Saturday, when they are scheduled to play Purdue (9 a.m.) and then Pittsburgh (1:30 p.m.). They close the Classic on Sunday against College of Charleston (1:30 p.m.).

Fort Myers, Fla. – Fourth year Kent State head coach Eric Oakley recorded his 100th win at the school in the Golden Flashes season-opening, 7-1, victory against LIU Brooklyn (0-2) at the FGCU Kickoff Classic. Oakley becomes just the third head coach in program history to reach the milestone and the fastest to do so.

Miami

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Miami University softball team (0-2) were swept on opening day at the USC Upstate Tournament on Friday. In the morning game, the RedHawks fell to Towson by a 3-8 margin. Miami concluded the day with a 1-9 loss in five innings against East Carolina.

HAMMOND, La. – The Northern Illinois University softball team split a pair of games in the first day of the Lion Classic I hosted by Southeastern Louisiana State Friday. After suffering a 3-2 setback to San Jose State in the season opener, the Huskie (1-1) offense erupted in the second game of the day, defeating the host Lions, 7-3.

KENNESAW, Ga.– The Ohio softball team (1-1) opened the 2019 season at the Phyllis Rafter Memorial Friday afternoon (Feb.8) splitting the day's games. The Bobcats defeated Eastern Illinois, 9-8, helping earn first-year head coach Kenzie Roark her first victory as the Bobcats' leader. Ohio would fall to Chattanooga, 6-3, later in the day.

Western Michigan

TEMPE, Ariz.- The Western Michigan softball team opened up the 2019 season today in Tempe, Ariz., at the Kajikawa Classic, facing a pair of PAC-12 opponents. The Broncos dropped game one to Utah, 8-2, and fell in game two to No. 12 ranked Arizona State, 8-4.
