MID-AMERICAN CONFERENCE ANNOUNCES MEN’S TENNIS PLAYER AND DOUBLES TEAM OF THE WEEK
 
MAC Men’s Tennis Singles Player of the Week
Hao Sheng Koay, Buffalo – Junior, Kangar, Malaysia (SMK Seri Hartamas)
Buffalo junior Hao Sheng Koay at No. 3 singles came away with a straight-sets win over Gabriel Nemeth of No. 39 Penn State last Saturday as he scored the lone victory for the Bulls.  Koay won his opening set 6-4 at third singles and followed that up with a 6-2 in the second set to claim the victory.
 
Additional Men’s Singles Nominees:
Mikko Malinen, Northern Illinois – Freshman, Malmo, Sweden

Northern Illinois freshman Mikko Malinen at No. 4 singles earned a pair of wins as he improved to 14-8 overall this season, including 10-2 in dual matches. Malinen defeated Ryan Roegner of Butler, 6-1, 6-0, before scoring a 4-6, 6-2, 6-4 win over Green Bay’s Dipin Wadhwa. Malinen has won five consecutive singles matches.
 
Luka Vitosevic, Toledo – Senior, Belgrade, Serbia (Sportska Gimnazija)
Toledo senior Luka Vitosevic at No. 1 singles went 2-0 over the weekend in Chicago. On Friday, Feb. 22 Vitosevic defeated Chicago State’s Jakov Suler in three sets (4-6, 6-4, 7-6 (12)), saving seven match points to clinch the Rockets’ 4-3 victory over the Cougars. On Saturday, Feb. 23, Vitosevic defeated UIC’s Niko Wasilewicz in two sets (6-4, 6-4) in the Rockets’ 4-0 sweep of the Flames. He is a computer science and engineering major. 
 
Lenhard Haupt, Western Michigan – Senior, Mainz, Germany (Stefan George Gymnasium)
Western Michigan senior co-captain Lenhard Haupt at No. 3 singles went 2-0 on Friday, Feb. 22 as the Broncos secured a pair of 7-0 wins over Michigan State and Hope College at West Hills Athletic Club. Haupt 7-6, 6-0 over the Spartans' John Carlin at the No. 3 spot prior to earning his third win of the season at court one versus Hope, 6-0, 6-2 vs. Mark VanderStoep. Haupt is a finance major.
 
 
MAC Men’s Tennis Doubles Team of the Week
David Pata, Northern Illinois – Freshman, Bucharest, Romania (Emil Racovita)
Bor Schweiger Muzar, Northern Illinois – Junior, Crnomelj, Slovenia (Gimnm)

 
Northern Illinois freshman David Pata and junior Bor Schweiger Muzar at No. 2 doubles swept a pair of matches this past weekend. Pata and Muzar topped Adrian Mag and Aviv Ben Shabat of Butler, 6-3, and earned a 6-1 win over Green Bay’s Dipin Wadhwa and Charlie Crozford. The two matches were just the second and third played by the Huskie duo as they improved to 2-1, with all three matches coming at number two.
 
Additional Men’s Doubles Teams of the Week Nominees:
Vince Anzalone, Toledo – Senior, Willoughby Hills, Ohio (Willoughby South HS)
Danilo Vukotic, Toledo – Junior, Nis, Serbia

 
Toledo senior Vince Anzalone and junior Danilo Vukotic at No. 2 doubles went 2-0 in Chicago. In Friday’s clash against Chicago State, Anzalone/Vukotic helped secure the doubles point in the Rockets’ 4-3 victory over the Cougars, defeating George Botha/Gonzalo Martinez 6-3. Anzalone/Vukotic went on to defeat UIC’s Johan Hedstrom/Kasper Parlklo 6-3, clinching the doubles point in the Rockets’ 4-0 sweep of the Flames. Anzalone is a supply chain management and marketing major, while Vukotic is an information and technology major.
 
Lenhard Haupt, Western Michigan – Senior, Mainz, Germany (Stefan George Gymnasium)
Jack Randall, Western Michigan – Freshman, Lockport, Ill. (Lockport Township HS)

 
Western Michigan senior co-captain Lenhard Haupt and freshman Jack Randall at No. 2 doubles clinched the doubles point with a 6-3 win over Jack Winkler and Nick Williams, which led to the Broncos' 7-0 victory over Michigan State, the program’s eighth win over a Big Ten opponent since 2013.
