MAC Announces Indoor Track & Field's Final Athletes of the Week

Women’s Track Athlete of the Week
Remy Amarteifio, NIU, 60m Hurdles
Junior – Evanston, Illinois/Evanston Township

Remy Amarteifio won the hurdles at the EIU Friday Night Special with a time of 8.39 seconds, the third-fastest time in the conference this season, comfortably ahead of second-place Pedra Hicks who finished in 8.74 seconds. Amarteifio ran a time of 8.50 seconds in the prelims.
 
Men’s Field Athlete of the Week
Curtis Richardson, Akron, High Jump
Senior – Blacklick, Ohio/Licking Heights

Akron senior Curtis Richardson equaled a career-best indoor mark of 7-1.75 (2.18m) to capture the men's high jump at the Zips Invitational. His effort matched his winning mark at the 2018 Mid-American Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships and stands as the top-rated performance in the league this season.
 
Women’s Field Athlete of the Week
Hannah Falcione, Miami, Triple Jump
Junior – Venetia, Pennsylvania/Peters Township

Falcione jumped a personal-best 12.14 in the triple jump at Ohio State's Buckeye Tune-Up on Friday, earning herself a second-place finish in the event.

 
 
Other Nominees:
Sarah Anderson, Western Michigan, 800m
Senior – Grand Rapids, Michigan/Forest Hills Central

Sarah Anderson broke WMU Hall of Famer Becky Horn's indoor 800-meter run record after taking first place in the event at the Alex Wilson Invitational on Saturday. Anderson ran a time of 2:05.74 (2:06.14) and finished the race well ahead of the pack in the final 200 meters. Anderson's time also ranks at the top of the Mid-American Conference and is currently 15th in the NCAA. Anderson's performance comes two weeks after she broke a long-standing program record for the indoor mile at the Meyo Invitational.
 
Olivia Bechtel, Miami, 60m
Junior – Bay Village, Ohio/Bay

Bechtel, who usually runs the 200m and 400m for the RedHawks, added the 60m to her event list last weekend at Ohio State's Buckeye Tune-Up; the junior ran a 7:56 to take second in the event in just her second collegiate run in the event.
 
Julianna Brown, Central Michigan, 3000m
Sophomore – Crystal Lake, Illinois/South

Central Michigan sophomore distance runner Julianna Brown clocked a personal-best 10:39.97 capture 1st place in the women's 3000m at the SVSU Tune Up on Friday.
 
Jess Dhaliwall, Buffalo, Weight Throw
Senior – Grand Island, New York/Grand Island

Jess Dhaliwall dominated in the women's weight throw event, claiming first place for the Bulls with a MAC auto-qualifying toss of 19.94m, over 1-meter ahead of the second placed thrower from Akron.
 
Jasmine Harris, Ball State, 60m/60m Hurdles
Junior – Moreland Hills, Ohio/Orange

Junior Jasmine Harris continued her hot streak at the Ball State Tune-Up, tallying an event win in the 60m hurdles (8.97) and placing fourth in the 60m (7.82). Harris had an even stronger run in the 60m hurdle prelims, clocking in at 8.66.
 
Emily Helfrich, Central Michigan, High Jump
Senior – Charlotte, Michigan/Charlotte

Central Michigan senior jumper Emily Helfrich posted a personal-best 1.63m mark to place first at the SVSU tune up on Friday. The Charlotte, Mich., native ranks 11th on the conference leader board heading into this weekend's MAC Indoor Championships.

Jocelyn Sharpe, Eastern Michigan, 800m
Senior – Westerville, Ohio/Westerville North

Eastern Michigan senior Jocelyn Sharpe earned one of the Eagles' two event titles at the SVSU Tune Up, Friday, Feb. 15.    Sharpe took the 800m title with a time of 2:18.11, topping her previous career-best time by almost three seconds.  Her effort is good for the 32nd-best time in the Mid-American Conference this season.
 
Erica Sheahan, Western Michigan, Long Jump/Triple Jump
Junior – Ithaca, Michigan/Ithaca

Sheahan won both the long jump and the triple jump, helping Western Michigan win the Ball State Tune-Up on Friday. Sheahan jumped 18' 8", the sixth time she's reached at least 18' 7" this season, to win the long jump. In the triple jump, she reached 36' 7", her best mark of the season, to also take first place.
 
Newlyn Stephenson, Eastern Michigan, Weight Throw
Sophomore – Gary, Indiana/Bowman Leadership Academy

Eastern Michigan sophomore Newlyn Stephenson earned the Green and White's top finish of the day at the Hillsdale Tune-Up, Saturday, Feb. 16. The Gary, Ind. native earned the Weight Throw event title with a heave clearing 18.87m.  The throw is good for the sixth-best throw by a Mid-American Conference athlete, and just .29m off his career-best throw, set at the Wolverine Invitational, Jan. 12.
 
Logan Targgart, Central Michigan, Weight Throw
Junior – Coldwater, Michigan/Coldwater

Central Michigan freshman thrower Logan Targgart posted a personal-best 20.3-meter toss to win the weight throw at the SVSU Tune Up on Friday. The Coldwater, Mich., natives toss put him at the No.1 spot on the conference leader board and 33rd in the NCAA heading in the MAC Indoor Championships this weekend. Targgart also finished second in the shot put.
 
Amy Villarini, Buffalo, 400m
Senior – Hamburg, New York/Hamburg

Buffalo Senior Amy Villarini collected an individual victory for the Bulls in the last tune-up before the MAC indoor Championships, as she raced her way to the win in the 400m event with a time of 56.95. The time is a season-best for Villarini.
 
Kelsey Walters, Ball State, Shot Put
Junior – Troy, Ohio/Troy

Junior Kelsey Walters led Ball State in the shot put at the Ball State Tune-Up, placing second overall at 14.00m. It was just .02m off her season-best mark and just .13m shy of her career-best effort. She also placed 4th in the weight throw with a career-best mark of 16.25m at the Ball State Tune-Up.
 
Nina Ward, Eastern Michigan, Long Jump/High Jump
Freshman – Fairfield, Ohio/Fairfield

Eastern Michigan freshman Nina Ward topped the podium in the Long Jump in the Eagles' appearance at the SVSU Tune Up, Friday, Feb. 15. The Fairfield, Ohio native cleared 5.45m with her long jump effort. She also turned in a fifth-place finish in the high jump with a leap of 1.53m.  Both efforts rank within the Mid-American Conference's top-40 marks. Furthermore, Ward's performances rank in the top-10 conference marks by a freshman student-athlete in both the high and long jump.
