MAC Wrestling Earns Top National Honors
 
INDIANAPOLIS -- The NCAA released the second of four coaches’ panel rankings and the first reveal of the RPI ratings index for the 2018-19 season.  In the NCAA Division I Wrestling Coaches Rankings, the MAC was represented with 31 wrestlers ranked, including two within the top five of the weight classes and six total ranked in the top ten. In the RPI ratings, the MAC witnessed 36 wrestlers ranked, including nine within the top 10 and three ranked in the top five of their respective weight classes. The final rankings will be one of the tools used as part of the selection process to determine the qualifiers for the 2019 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships. This year’s event is March 21-23 at PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh, Pa.

No. 5    Missouri

Missouri enters this weekend ranked No. 5 in the country by the USA Today/NWCA Coaches national rankings with an 15-0 overall record, 7-0 in the MAC. The Tigers host No. 2 ranked Oklahoma State this Saturday, Feb. 16 at 3:30 pm ET/2:30 pm CT in Columbia, Mo. 
 
In the Division I Wrestling Coaches Rankings, Missouri’s Daniel Lewis (174) was ranked No. 2, while Missouri's Jaydin Eierman (141) ranked No. 4 in their respective weight classes. Missouri’s Brock Mauller (149) was ranked No. 7, while Old Dominion’s Larry Early (157) was ranked No. 8 and Missouri’s John Erneste (133) and Buffalo's Bryan Lantry (141) were both ranked No. 9.

In the RPI rankings, Missouri's John Erneste (133) was ranked No. 2, while teammates Daniel Lewis (174) ranked No. 3 and Jaydin Eierman (141) ranked No. 4 in their respective weight classes.  Central Michigan's Drew Hildebrandt (125) ranked No. 7, while Old Dominion's Larry Early (157) and Central Michigan's Matt Stencel (285) both ranked No. 9.  Missouri's Brock Mauller (149), Connor Flynn (165) and Dylan Wisman (184) each ranked No. 10 in their respective weight classes.

Wrestlers in each weight class will be measured by winning percentage, rating percentage index (RPI) and coaches’ rankings to earn allocation spots for their qualifying tournaments for the championships. The coaches’ rankings are compiled by a vote of coaches representing each qualifying tournament. For ranking purposes, coaches may only consider a wrestler that has been designated as a starter at a respective weight class. To be eligible for the rankings, wrestlers must have participated in at least five matches against Division I opponents in the weight class and have wrestled within the last 30 days.
