KANSAS CITY, Mo.— United Soccer Coaches announced on Monday the 2019 All-Region Teams for Division I Men's Soccer. The teams are selected through voting by member coaches in those respective divisions. Student-athletes earning First Team All-Region honors are now eligible to earn All-America status.
The Mid-American Conference was highlighted throughout the teams, tabbing seven athletes in the All-North Region Teams.
Bowling Green Goalkeeper Anthony Mwembia and SIUE Forward Jorge Gonzalez were both named to the first team after strong individual seasons.
Mwembia, a native of Toulouse, France, started all 21 matches for the Falcons this season, and had 63 saves, 11 shutouts and a goals-against average of just 0.83. Mwembia's total of 11 clean sheets was one shy of the school record, and was the highest by a Falcon 'keeper since BGSU Hall-of-Famer Scott Vallow and the Falcons had 12 shutouts in 1998.
Jorge was chosen as the Mid-American Conference Player of the Year after leading the MAC in scoring with nine goals and 22 points. He currently ranks 49
th in the NCAA in goals per game, 53
rd in the in total goals scored and 64
th in the NCAA with 22 total points.
Western Michigan's Sam Biek, Bowling Green's Achille Robin and Akron's David Egbo were all named to the second team, with WVU senior Sebastian Garcia-Herreros, and Akron Defender Carlo Rittacio being named to the third team.
