BGSU's Kennedy Named Senior CLASS Award First-Team All American

Bowling Green State University women's soccer standout Maureen Kennedy has been named a First-Team Senior CLASS Award® All-American. Kennedy is one of just five student-athletes across the nation named to the first team.

Additionally, Kennedy is the first player in school history, and just the fourth in Mid-American Conference history, to be named a Senior CLASS Award® All-American. Eastern Michigan's Emily Dzik (2014) and Ball State's Alyssa Heintschel earned first-team honors, while Central Michigan's Shay Mannino (2010) was named to the second team.

Kennedy was named one of 30 women's candidates for the award on Sept. 23. Then, several weeks later (Oct. 11), the Falcon senior was named one of 10 female finalists for the prestigious honor, as chosen by a selection committee. The Senior CLASS Award® winner and First- and Second-Team All Americans were determined through a combination of fan voting along with media and Division I head coaches' votes.

An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School®, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.

Each of the candidates has displayed a strong work ethic in the classroom and on the pitch. Outside of academics and athletics, all candidates also have been consistently involved in community service on their campus or in their communities.

Kennedy, the MAC's Defensive Player of the Year for the second-straight season, finished fourth on the team with 17 points, despite missing the last four-plus contests due to injury. Kennedy, a native of Cypress, Calif. (Los Alamitos), had five goals and seven assists on the year, and she had 12 points on three goals and a team-high six helpers in MAC play. Kennedy scored a pair of game-winning goals in 2019, and saw another goal tie a match with just 19.3 seconds remaining in regulation.

Earlier this week, Kennedy was named to the United Soccer Coaches All-Midwest Region Second Team. She and classmate Chelsee Washington became the first players in school history to earn all-region honors on multiple occasions. Kennedy also was named to the Academic All-District Team, sponsored by CoSIDA.

Kennedy wound up her career with 61 points, ranking seventh in BGSU history. She finished second in school history in career assists, with 31, and was just two shy of tying the school record. And, she ended her career ranked 13th in career goals, with 15.
