Toledo's Knapke Records Triple Double As Rockets Top Cleveland State

CLEVELAND, Ohio - Senior Luke Knapke's record-breaking night on Wednesday evening spurred Toledo to a convincing 80-65 victory at Cleveland State in non-conference men's basketball action at the Wolstein Center.
 
Knapke registered a triple double against the Vikings as he tallied 12 points, a team-high 12 rebounds and a career-best 10 blocked shots. Knapke's 10 rejections surpassed the Rockets' school mark held by J.C. Harris, and he now has 162 career blocks to surpass Nathan Boothe's record of 155.
 
Junior Spencer Littleson paced the Toledo attack with a game-high 19 points. Three more Rockets - junior Marreon Jackson (17), senior Willie Jackson (13) and redshirt freshman Keshaun Saunders (13) - scored in double digits.
 
Toledo enjoyed success from the perimeter by knocking down 11-of-24 (45.8 percent) three-point attempts. Littleson and Saunders led the way with 4-of-8 and 3-of-5 performances behind the arc.
 
The Rockets tallied a school-record 12 rejections, one more than they recorded on two occasions last year vs. Central Michigan. UT's defensive efforts limited the Vikings to a 33.3 field-goal percentage.
 
Toledo returns to action on Sunday, Dec. 8 when it hosts Marshall in a 2:00 p.m. matinee.

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Akron men's basketball team secured their first road win of the season, defeating Marshall 85-73 behind a pair of 20-plus point performances from senior Xeyrius Williams (Springfield, Ohio) junior Loren Cristian Jackson (Chicago, Ill.) at the Cam Henderson Center on Wednesday evening.
 
Williams recorded his second double-double of the season by halftime en route to a career-best 25-point, 14-rebound night. He was the Zips second leading scorer, shooting 55.6 percent from downtown (5-of-9) and 45.5 percent from all areas of the court (10-of-22). Williams added two assists, one block and one steal.
 
Meanwhile, Jackson led the squad in scoring with a season-high 28 points while dishing out five assists and grabbing five rebounds. Jackson shot 50 percent from the floor, connecting with 8-of-16 field goals that included a 57.1 percent effort from beyond the 3-point arc on 4-of-7 shooting. In addition, Jackson was perfect from the free throw line, draining all eight attempts.
 
The Zips return to James A. Rhodes Arena for a non-conference tilt against Southern on Sunday, Dec. 8 at 2 p.m.

ATHENS, Ohio –  With five Bobcats recording double figures, the Ohio men's basketball team (6-3) returned to action Wednesday night (Dec. 4), defeating Rio Grande (6-5), 90-51, inside the Convocation Center.
 
Leading the way was redshirt sophomore forward Ben Vander Plas (Ripon, Wis.) who scored 14 points, going 7-of-9 from the field and grabbing two rebounds in 21 minutes, followed by graduate transfer forward Sylvester Ogbonda (Port Harcourt, Nigeria), who also finished with 14 points, going 6-of-7 from the field, 1-for-1 from three-point range, while also grabbing a team-high eight rebounds. Freshman forward Marvin Price (Baltimore, Md.) also finished with 14 points, going 4-of-6 from the field, 2-of-2 from three-point range and five rebounds. Sophomore Jason Preston (Orlando, Fla.) finished with 11 points and 13 assists, while redshirt freshman Mason McMurray (Stow, Ohio) finished with 12 points and seven rebounds.
 
Overall, Ohio shot 58.7 percent from the field, 38.1 percent from three-point range and 72.7 percent from the free throw line, while Rio Grande shot 35.0 percent from the field, 23.1 percent from three-point range and 60 percent from the free throw line. Ohio outrebounded Rio Grande, 38-28, while the Bobcats dished out 23 assists compared to Rio Grande's six. Ohio also scored 50 points in the paint and 25 points off of turnovers.
 
Up next, Ohio returns to Athens on Sunday, Dec. 8 when the Bobcats host Tennessee Tech. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m. inside the Convocation Center.
