MAC WEEKLY NOTES
• NIU spoiled Western Michigan's chance to clinch the MAC West Division with a 17-14 win on Tuesday, Nov. 26. Big plays and timely turnovers helped the Huskies stun the Broncos. NIU wide receiver Tyrice Richie scored on a 71-yard forward toss off a jet sweep from quarterback Marcus Childers to give the Huskies a 10-0 lead. Richie appeared to be tackled near the NIU 40-yard line, but he rolled over the top of the Bronco defender, never touching the ground, before racing the rest of the way for the score with 2:15 to play in the second quarter. NIU went into its bag of tricks to extend the lead to 17-7 in the fourth quarter as freshman wide receiver Michael Love took an end around and found tight end Mitchell Brinkman in the end zone for a seven-yard touchdown pass, extending the Huskie lead to 10 with 7:47 remaining.
• Ohio closed out the regular season schedule with a 52-3 win at Akron on Nov. 26. The victory clinched an 11th-straight season of bowl eligibility for the Bobcats and a winning MAC record for the fifth year in a row. Ohio piled up 603 yards of total offense, with a season-high 352 through the air and 251 on the ground. Ohio recorded over 600 yards of total offense for the second week in a row and seventh time in program history after putting up a season-high 609 in a 66-24 triumph at Bowling Green on Nov. 19.
• Kent State’s Matthew Trickett’s 22-yard field goal marked his third game-winner this season in a 41-38 win over Ball State on Nov. 23. Kent State quarterback Dustin Crum amassed 470 yards of total offense and four touchdowns with 369 yards passing and three touchdowns, while adding 101 yards rushing and another score. Crum became the first Kent State quarterback to throw for over 300 yards passing and rush for over 100 yards in a single game since Josh Cribbs in 2004. Crum’s 470 yards of offense are the most by a Kent State student-athlete since 1997.
• Buffalo became bowl eligible for the third straight season with a 49-30 win over Toledo on Nov. 20. Buffalo running back Jaret Patterson rushed for a career-high 192 yards and four touchdowns, while adding 35 yards receiving and one touchdown. • Miami set a school record with 12 team sacks in a 20-17 win over Akron on Nov. 20. Miami freshman linebacker Ivan Pace Jr. set a school mark and tied a MAC and FBS single-game record with six sacks in the contest. Miami running back Jaylon Bester added a career-high 128 yards rushing and one touchdown in the victory. Miami has already clinched the MAC East title with a 6-1 record.
• Eastern Michigan became bowl eligible for the second consecutive year and the third time in the last four seasons for the first time in the program’s 128-year history with a 45-17 win at Northern Illinois on Nov. 19. It also marked the first win for the Eagles against the Huskies since the 2007 season.
