DALLAS, TEXAS – Sydney Radloff's individual title in the 400 IM headlined the Missouri State men's and women's swimming and diving teams' second-day efforts at the SMU Invite Friday evening at the Robson and Lindley Aquatics Center.
After another productive day of races, the women maintain a sixth-place team standing with 269.5 points while the men jumped to third with 468.5, moving behind Power Five competition LSU.
Picking up the Bears' third individual event win of the invitational, Radloff swam a personal-best 4:18.10 time in a tight 400 IM race, edging out Fresno State's Darina Khisiamova a smidge under two-tenths of a second and creating some much-needed momentum for the Bears.
"Personally, I am very excited about my first-place finish in the 400 IM," said Radloff. "Turning in a best time was encouraging and so was the constant support from my teammates."
MSU continued to contribute impressive swims in the freestyle portion, seeing Libby Howell and Arthur Cury place in the top-three during the 200 freestyle. Howell followed up her successful first day results with a runner-up finish in the short-distance freestyle event, clocking in a 1:48.29 mark. Cury piled on clutch points for the Bears in the same race shortly after with a 1:36.89 third-place time.
Anna Miller and Pawel Krawczyk rounded out the A-final point-scorers in the 200 freestyle, earning seventh (1:51.09) and sixth (1:38.19) placements, respectively.
Michael Hampel claimed the Bears final top-three result of the second session, swimming a 53.99 runner-up time in the 100 breaststroke. Samuel Senn and Conner Funke also engineered top-ten times for the Bears to build key points down the stretch.
"The Bears consistently ran the energy of the meet, resulting in a huge momentum swing for us," said Hampel. "Tomorrow we will be saving the best for last."
MSU capped the second session with a pair of A-final finishes from Sarah Allegri and Noah Witzki in the 100 backstroke. Allegri garnered a seventh-place (55.85) time while Witzki settled for eighth (50.04).
Turning to the relay races, MSU earned two results ranked among the top three, coming in a third-place decision in the men's 200 medley (1:28.03) and a runner-up time in the 800 free (6:33.50).
Michael Claunch proved to be the Bears' leading point scorer on the 1-meter boards, clinching a 284.10 fourth-place score on the second day.
The Bears resume competition tomorrow with prelims at 10 a.m.
