DAVIS, Calif. – The Central Michigan field hockey team hung tough despite a large discrepancy in shots on Tuesday as the Chippewas fell to UC Davis, 1-0, in a nonconference match at Aggie Field Hockey Facility.

CMU goalkeeper Abigail Ebersole tallied nine saves in the contest. The Chippewas are 2-11.

How It Happened
The Chippewas were outshot, 16-1, by UC Davis (6-5). CMU was unable to get a shot on goal in the game.

"We just ended up playing a lot of defense," CMU coach Catherine Ostoich said. "I just think they beat us to the 50-50 ball; they were connecting passes and we just were not, unfortunately."

Despite the large discrepancy in shots, the game was decided by a thin margin. Lauren Gengarella's goal just over six minutes into the third quarter was the only separation between the two teams.

"I just think they wanted it more than us today, unfortunately," Ostoich said. "They outhustled us to a lot of balls."

Scoring Drought
It was the second time this season the Chippewas have been shut out by the Aggies.

"Every time we got up to the 25, we couldn't put together more than one or two passes," Ostoich said. "Instead of valuing the ball we just took it fast and tried to just throw it away, and then we weren't in those spaces.

"We just were off today," said Ostoich. "We weren't working with each other, communicating with each other … it was all around a difficult game."
