Akron's Sunden Claims Golfer of the Week Honors

Junior Fabian Sunden (Sweden) became the first Akron golfer to win the Firestone Invitational Individual Championship as he fired an 8-under par 208 tournament total (72-66-70) en route to leading the Zips to a fourth-place finish, 860 (-4). Sunden followed a career-best 6-under par second round with a 70 (-2) final round effort to capture individual medalist honors. In addition, Sunden recorded a hole-in-one on the par-3, 201-yard hole No. 11, it was his first career hole-in-one in tournament play. 
 
Sunden ranked 11th overall after the first round even-par 72 performance, but ascended to the top of the leaderboard with the 6-under par ledger. He entered the final day tied for first place with Gustav Fransson (Old Dominion) as both golfers held a one-stroke advantage over the field. Sunden’s solid final round of 13 pars, two birdies and an ace proved to be enough to win the individual title. In addition, Sunden played 18-holes, three 9's, of bogey-free golf with a combined 10 birdies and the hole-in-one. Sunden posted a career-high 34 pars and 13 birdies in 54-holes of play.

Firestone Invitational

Ty Celone finished tied for 10th-place with a one-under 215 (76-72-67) for his second top 10 showing of the season and seventh in his career. The Long Sault, Ontario native was able to shave strokes off each of his three rounds and was tied for the second-largest climb up the leaderboard on the final day.
 
Jack Katarincic, Miami, Senior, Shady Side Academy          
Bearcat Invitational

Miami senior Jack Katarincic competed at the Bearcat Invitational and finished in a tie for 16th at even par. On day one, Katarincic shot a two-over par round of 73 and a one-under par round or 70. Katarincic finished the tournament with a round of 70.

Prairie Club Invitational         
T-11 // 74-76-74=224 (+5)     
Less was the Huskies' top finisher at the Prairie Club Invitational, tying for 11th place. He opened and closed the tournament with one-over par 74s.

Firestone Invitational

Junior Austin Dyson (Dublin, Ohio) was the high finisher for the Ohio men's golf team at the Firestone Invitational this week (Sept. 30-Oct. 1), which was contested at the Firestone Country Club North Course. Dyson tied for 34th place with a 222 (+6). He carded rounds of 74 (+2), 70 (-2) and 78 (+6). As a team, the Bobcats placed 14th with a combined team total of 904 (+40) after posting round scores of  300 (+12), 297 (+9) and 307 (+19).
