BGSU Sweeps Women's Soccer Player of the Week Honors

MAC Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week
Chelsee Washington, Bowling Green, Midfielder
Senior  Carrollton, Texas (Hebron)
Washington had a stellar week as the Falcons won two more games to improve to 6-0-0 in the MAC. She had five points, including a pair of goals on the week, and both of her goals came in the 90th minute of the match or later. On Thursday, Washington had a three-point game against Central Michigan. She had an assist on BG’s first-half goal, then scored a goal of her own. The latter goal tied the match with just 35 seconds left in regulation. She was indirectly involved in the winning goal in overtime as well, as her cross into the box began a sequence which saw a teammate hit the crossbar with a shot and another Falcon score on the rebound. On Sunday at Eastern Michigan, Washington hit the crossbar with a second-half shot, and after BG tied the match with just 19.3 seconds to go, she scored the winning goal in the 95th minute for a 2-1 victory. It marked her second ‘Golden Goal’ of the season and the seventh game-winning goal of her career. She is only the third player in BGSU history to score two OT goals in the same season. On the year, Washington now has 13 points on four goals and five assists. She now has 17 career goals, 19 assists and 53 points at BGSU. On the school career lists, she is now 10th in goals, sixth in assists and eighth in points. Washington has scored a goal in three-straight games – all wins – and has a total of seven points in that time. She had six shot attempts in each of last week’s two contests. Washington has eight points, including three goals and two assists, in MAC matches this season. BGSU is off to a 6-0-0 start in the MAC for just the second time in school history, and the second time in as many years.

MAC Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week
Maureen Kennedy, Bowling Green, Defender
Senior, Cypress, Calif. (Los Alamitos)
Kennedy again contributed at both ends of the field as the Falcons won two more matches to remain undefeated in the MAC. Kennedy had three points on the week, with a goal and an assist – both coming on game-tying goals with under 30 seconds to go. On Thursday, Kennedy had an assist on Chelsee Washington’s tying goal with just 25 seconds to go in regulation, as the Falcons went on to defeat Central Michigan, 3-2 in double overtime. Then, on Sunday, BGSU was down, 1-0, when she stepped up and blasted a free kick into the net with just 19.3 seconds remaining in the second half. BG would score the winning goal in overtime to down the Eagles, 2-1. Additionally, earlier in the week, she was named one of just 10 finalists for the Senior CLASS Award. Kennedy now has career totals of 15 goals, 28 assists and 58 points as a Falcon. She sits in 12th place on the career goals list, and is sixth in points. Kennedy ranks second in career assists, and is just four shy of tying the school record in that category. This season, she ranks second on the team in points (14) and is tied for second in both goals (five) and assists (four). She currently has a five-match scoring streak, with nine points (three goals and three assists) in that time. In MAC matches only, Kennedy leads the team with nine points. BGSU is off to a 6-0-0 start in the MAC for just the second time in school history, and the second time in as many years.

Other Top Performances
Julia Elvbo, Ball State, Midfielder
Senior  Lit, Sweden (Storsjogymnasiet)
Elvbo duplicated the exact same stat line that won her MAC Offensive Player of the Week honors one week ago. She scored the game-winning goal at Western Michigan in double overtime and assisted on the game-winning goal against Northern Illinois. In Thursday's contest against the Huskies, Elvbo helped Ball State in their dominant offensive attack by taking six shots and putting four on goal. It was her passing that proved critical though as she assisted Nicky Potts on the game-winning goal with minutes remaining in double overtime. Then, on Sunday, Elvbo had her turn to put the match away when she scored the game winner to clinch a 2-1 double overtime victory for the Cardinals at Western Michigan. The senior had the exact same result one week earlier when she scored the game winner in double overtime at Buffalo. For the week, Elvbo totaled eight shots, five shots on goal, one goal, one assist and three points in 108 minutes of play.
