MAC Storylines
• Week 7 features a swing into league play this Saturday, Oct. 12th with five MAC games -- including two rivalry contests featuring Bowling Green vs. Toledo and Akron vs. Kent State -- and one final regular season non-conference contest with independent New Mexico State at Central Michigan at 3:00 pm ET (ESPN3).
• ‘The Battle of I-75 Trophy’ will feature Toledo at Bowling Green on Saturday, Oct. 12 at Noon ET on CBS Sports Network. This will mark the 84th meeting between these rivals as the series dates back to 1919. Toledo leads the series by the narrowest of margins 40-39-4.
• Another MAC rivalry squares off as Kent State will travel to Akron for the ‘Battle of the Wagon Wheel’ on Saturday, Oct. 12 at 3:30 pm ET (ESPN3). Only 12 miles separate both campuses and this will be the 62nd meeting between Akron and Kent State. Akron leads the series 35-24-2. The ‘Wagon Wheel’ era began in 1946, however the series dates back to 1923.
• Last week a total of 15 points separated three league games to once again reinforce how close MAC programs are throughout the Conference from top to bottom. Ohio overcame Buffalo with a 21-20 overtime win on the road. Toledo topped Western Michigan, 31-24, as the Rockets halted the Broncos at the Toledo 12-yard line with two minutes left in regulation. Ball State came from behind with 21 unanswered points to earn a 27-20 win at Northern Illinois.
MAC Notebook
• Central Michigan running back Jonathan Ward posted 205 all-purpose yards and accounted for three touchdowns in leading the Chippewas to a convincing 42-16 win over Eastern Michigan. The Chippewas used big plays in rolling up season-highs with 308 yards rushing and 587 yards of total offense. Ward totaled 132 yards rushing and two touchdowns, while adding three catches for 73 yards and one score. Ward posted an 86-yard touchdown run and a 64-yard receiving touchdown, while running back Kobe Lewis added a 28-yard touchdown run and wide receiver Kalil Pimpleton had an 80-yard scoring strike from quarterback David Moore. The Chippewas built a 21-3 halftime lead and increased it to 28-3 midway through the third quarter.
• Ball State running back Caleb Huntley had a career-high 35 carries for a seasonhigh 157 yards rushing and two touchdowns in leading a 27-20 win at Northern Illinois and winning the ‘Bronze Stalk Trophy’ for the first time since 2008. The Cardinals outscored the Huskies 24-3 in the second half, including 21 unanswered points, despite not completing a single pass in the second half. Ball State forced three second half turnovers and kicker Ryan Rimmler converted a career-high four field goals -- from 24, 25, 42 and 22 yards.
• Toledo running back Bryant Koback rushed for 177 yards on 21 carries as the Rockets rushed for 275 yards as a team and defeated Western Michigan, 31-24, to improve to 4-1 overall on the season. Toledo quarterback Mitchell Guadagni completed 14-22 passing for 200 yards and two touchdowns, while wide receiver Bryce Mitchell had four receptions for a career-high 119 yards receiving. Toledo honored the 50th anniversary of the 1969 MAC Championship team that went 11-0 that season. That team was the first of three straight undefeated Rocket teams that went 35-0 from 1969 through 1971 seasons. The Rockets also wore vintage throwback uniforms from the 1969 season in their honor.
• Ohio running back O’Shaan Allison rushed for 96 yards and two touchdowns in leading the Bobcats to a 21-20 overtime win at Buffalo. Trailing 20-14 in overtime, Allison carried the ball on all five plays of their overtime possession and scored on a five-yard touchdown run and kicker Louis Zervos nailed the extra point for the Bobcats overtime victory.
