MAC Gymnast of the Week
Denelle Pedrick, Central Michigan, Junior

With another dominating performance across the board, Denelle Pedrick continues to place as a top performer for All-Around Competition, this week taking first amongst the rest of the competition. Danielle's All-Around first place score of 39.1 includes a breakdown of Vault: 9.725 (Fourth), Uneven Bars: 9.800 (First), Balance Beam: 9.775 (Third), and Floor Exercise 9.800 (First). With these four excellent scores, Denelle led the way for the Chippewas in a 193.675 to 192.700 victory over the Western Michigan Broncos. With Denelle Pedrick’s 39.1 All-Around score, that would make her the leader in MAC competition for the week with the next closest scores coming from Western Michigan and Eastern Michigan, both with 38.925 from their respective gymnasts.

MAC Specialist of the Week
Anna Martucci, Northern Illinois, Senior

Anna Martucci led the NIU floor squad to a record breaking performance Sunday in a triangular meet at the NIU Convocation Center. Martucci scored a season-high 9.925, tying for the fourth-highest score in school history, to win the floor exercise in the tri-meet. Her score helped NIU to a team floor score of 49.375, breaking the school record of 49.350 set at the 2018 MAC Championships. The 9.925 is also the highest score posted by any Huskie gymnast in 2019. Martucci is now averaging a 9.869 on floor exercise on the year.

Other Gymnast Nominees 

Jordyn Penny, Ball State, Senior
Penny increased her usual workload during Ball State’s meet at Eastern Michigan, competing in three events for the first time this season. Her night was highlighted by a win on beam (9.825). It was her second event win of the season. Penny, who is in grad school after earning her degree in December, was also 5th on bars and 6th on vault. As a team, Ball State’s vault at EMU was the team’s highest scoring routine of the year (48.725).

Jovannah East, Bowling Green, Junior
Jovannah East recorded a pair of 9.900 scores, doing so on vault and floor in the team’s MAC opener at Northern Illinois (w/UIC). East won the vault in the triangular and placed second on both floor and beam, where she posted a 9.825. Her 9.900 on vault was the best score of the week in the MAC and her 9.900 on floor tied for second. She also tied for third-best score in the MAC this week on vault. It was the second consecutive meet in which East, a national qualifier in the all-around a year ago, scored a pair of 9.900+ scores.

Emili Dobronics, Eastern Michigan, Junior

Dobronics finished first in floor with a 9.850, and first in all-around with a score of 38.925. Also, coming in third on bars with 9.700.

Beam: 9.725 / 6th

Floor: 9.850 / 1st

Amanda Bartemio, Northern Illinois, Junior

Junior Amanda Bartemio continues to be the Huskies’ most consistent multi-eventer as for the second straight week, she posted three scores of 9.700 or better as NIU recorded its highest team score of the season while claiming a MAC win over Bowling Green at the NIU Convocation Center Sunday. Bartemio was part of NIU’s record-setting floor squad as the Huskies broke the school record for team floor score with a 49.375, with Bartemio contributing a 9.850 to tie for fourth, tying her season best floor mark in the process.Her 9.750 on vault tied her season high as she tied for seventh on the event and she added a 9.700 on uneven parallel bars to tie for ninth as all three of her scores again counted toward the team total.

Morgan Spence, Western Michigan, Sophomore
Sophomore Morgan Spence competed as an all-arounder this past Sunday against Central Michigan, and was runner-up with a 38.925. She was also runner-up on the floor exercise with a 9.800, third on bars with a 9.750 and fifth on vault, flashing a 9.675.

Beam: 9.700 / 6th
Floor: 9.800 / 2nd 


Other Specialist Nominees

Lauren Volpe, Ball State, Freshman
Volpe enjoyed the best performance of her young collegiate career when she landed a 9.800 on the beam at Eastern Michigan on Jan. 24. The freshman from Mundelein, Ill., previous went 9.775 on beam at North Carolina. Ball State had four freshmen perform nine routines in the meet and Volpe’s was the best performance of that group.

Anna-Maria Kanyai, Bowling Green, Freshman
Freshman Anna-Maria Kanyai scored a team-best 9.700 on bars in the team’s MAC opener at Northern Illinois Sunday. Kanyai’s score tied forninth overall in the triangular meet, which also included UIC.

Bars: 9.700 / T-9th

Nora Fettinger, Central Michigan, Sophomore
Coming in first place again (For the second time this early in the season) as only a Sophomore, Nora Fettinger has beaten out the rest of the competition as the top performer during the floor routine. With a Floor score of 9.825, and a Vault score of 9.675, Nora helped carry the rest of the Chippewas as they went on to beat the Western Michigan Broncos by a score of 193.675 to 192.700 during opening competition of conference play. Nora has developed her vital role exponentially, and is trusted by her coaches and team to anchor the floor exercise as an underclassman. After completing four weeks of competition, Nora is currently the top ranked Floor performer in the Mid-American Conference.

Caitlin Satler, Eastern Michigan, Freshman

Satler finished in third on beam and floor, both with a score of 9.775. Both of these performances were personal-bests.

Dara Williams, Kent State, Senior
Williams helped the Golden Flashes to a second-place finish in the West Virginia Tri as she tied for the individual uneven bars title with a season-high score of 9.800. She also finished tied for second on vault with a season-high score of 9.775. Williams’ scores on each event helpedthe Flashes score season-highs as a team on both vault and bars.

Amelia Mohler, Western Michigan, Junior

Western Michigan junior Amelia Mohler competed on the uneven bars and balance beam this past Saturday against Central Michigan. She had both of her scores counted towards the team total. Mohler recorded a 9.675 on bars, placing seventh, and a 9.700 on beam, placing sixth.
