Plaksa & Ludwig Named Scholar-Athletes of the Week
Female Scholar Athlete of the Week: January 7th - January 13th, 2019
Central Michigan's Gianna Plaksa, Gymnastics (Senior, 3.92, Biology/Biomedical Sciences)
Won the uneven parallel bars, shared first place on the floor exercise and won the all-around in leading the 22nd-ranked Chippewas to a 195.275 team score – far and away the best by a MAC team this season – as CMU cruised past Illinois State in a nonconference dual. Plaksa won the bars with a 9.800, tied for first with teammate Nora Fettinger on the floor exercise with a 9.850, and won the all-around with a 39.050 score, the second-highest by a MAC gymnast this season. Plaksa also placed fifth on beam (9.725) and sixth on vault (9.675).
Male Scholar Athlete of the Week: January 7th - January 13th, 2019
Akron's Matt Ludwig, Pole Vault (Senior, 3.873, Biomedical Engineering)
Senior Matt Ludwig opened his 2019 campaign capturing the men’s pole vault title at the Jim Green Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 12. His winning mark of 18-1.25 (5.52m) stands as the third-best mark in the NCAA this season, while also pacing the MAC for the four-time league champion.
