BGSU's Turner Named Lou Henson Award Player Of The Week
BOSTON, Mass. – Justin Turner, a redshirt-sophomore guard on the Bowling Green State University men's basketball team, was named the Lou Henson Award Player of the Week for his efforts in BGSU's 2-0 week. The Lou Henson Award is presented annually to the top mid-major player in Division I college basketball.
Turner, also named the MAC East Player of the Week, averaged 25.0 points and 4.5 assists last week as the Falcons earned wins over Ohio (Jan. 8) and Central Michigan (Jan. 12). Turner shot 48.5 percent (17-of-35) from the field, including a 41.6 percent (5-of-12) clip from downtown. The Detroit native went a perfect 11-for-11 from the free throw line.
Turner, who opened the week with a 20-point performance versus Ohio, scored 30 points in Bowling Green's overtime win at Central Michigan. He became the first BGSU sophomore in 15 years to score 30-plus points. Turner scored 12 of those points in OT, and also collected six assists in the contest.
Bowling Green's do-it-all guard is averaging a league-high 23.3 points per game in MAC play. His 19.6 scoring average on the entire season sits second in the MAC. Turner also leads the conference in 20-point games, having scored 20-plus points 10 times in 2018-19.
Turner and Bowling Green continue MAC play tonight (Jan. 15) with a 7 p.m. tip inside the Stroh Center versus Ball State. The Falcons have won seven-straight games by double figures for the first time since 1947-48. BGSU is 8-0 at home for the first time since 1999-2000.
