The Akron women's basketball team fended off a furious second-half rally by visiting Bowling Green and closed out the Falcons late in the fourth quarter for a 74-71 win Saturday afternoon at James A. Rhodes Arena during the Zips league home opener. The Zips, who led by double digits for most of the first half, saw their lead cut to one point multiple times in the third and fourth quarters, but never surrendered the lead.

Buffalo 66, Miami 59 // Box Score
The University at Buffalo women's basketball team won its second straight game, defeating Miami (OH) 66-59 on Saturday afternoon. With the win the Bulls improve to 10-4 on the year, 2-1 in Mid-American Conference Play. Cierra Dillard led all scorers with 26 points, including 10-12 from the charity stripe, narrowly missing out on a triple-double, dishing out 10 assists, pulling down seven rebounds and adding three steals. Theresa Onwuka added a double-double of her own with 14 points and 11 rebounds and Courtney Wilkins chipped in 12 points, going 4-8 from beyond the arc. "I like what we're doing, we're getting better every day," head coach Felisha Legette-Jack said.

Central Michigan 89, Northern Illinois 66 // Box Score
The road trip is over. The dominance continued. Presley Hudson scored 24 points and Reyna Frost had 20 points and a season-high 21 rebounds on Saturday as the Central Michigan women's basketball team posted an 89-66 victory over Northern Illinois in a Mid-American Conference game at the Huskies' Convocation Center. The win lifted the Chippewas to 12-3, 3-0 MAC as the two-time defending MAC regular-season champions continued to flex their muscle early in the league schedule.

The Eastern Michigan University women's basketball team got back in the win column with a thrilling 64-61 victory over Western Michigan University Saturday, Jan. 12, inside the Convocation Center. Trailing 61-59, the Eagles (8-6, 1-2 MAC) picked up the first of two crucial stops when freshman Jenna Annecchiarico drew a charge with 1:06 left in regulation. On EMU's next possession, redshirt senior Danielle Minott knocked down her fourth triple of the final frame to give the Eagles a 62-61 lead with 47 seconds on the clock.

Another big fourth quarter and tenacious defense fueled Kent State in a 58-47 win at Toledo on Saturday afternoon that extended its season-best winning streak to seven games. The Golden Flashes (10-4) put 24 points on the board over the final 10 minutes to put the game away and are 3-0 to start Mid-American Conference play for the first time since the 2010-11 season. Through three league games, Kent State has outscored its opponents by 29 points in the fourth quarter.

Behind a career-high 24 points from redshirt freshman Erica Johnson, the Ohio Women's Basketball team (13-1, 2-1 MAC) earned a road win at Ball State (6-9, 1-2 MAC), 90-75, on Saturday afternoon in Worthen Arena. "It was really nice to see the ball go in the basket after we struggled at home a few days ago," head coach Bob Boldon said.
