PITTSBURGH, Pa. (EMUEagles.com) — The Eastern Michigan University gymnastics team took fourth place in the quad meet hosted by the University of Pittsburgh with a score of  192.700, Saturday, Jan. 12. The Eagles fell short against West Virginia University (195.500), Pitt (194.750), and Utah State University (194.600).

"It was really good to get out there and compete," Head Gymnastics Coach Katie Minasola said. "We started off strong on floor with good energy and carried that momentum to vault and was very excited about our performance in that event. Bars definitely caused some pot holes today, but we brought it back on beam. Our first meet is done, now we can concentrate on confidence and consistency."

EMU posted its highest event score on vault, posting a 48.850. Senior Megan Hultgren (Rockford, Ill.-Sacred Heart Classical Center) earned a 9.850 and tied for third-place to lead the way for Eastern.

Sophomore Cortney Bezold (Maineville, Ohio-Bishop Fenwick) paced the Green and White on bars with a score of 9.700, while senior Carly Clark(White Lake, Mich.-Walled Lake Northern) notched a 9.600.

On beam, junior Emili Dobronics (Orland Park, Ill.-Carl Sandburg) scored a 9.675, while sophomore Jada Rondeau (Norwood Young America, Minn.-Central) and Hultgren put up scores of 9.650 and 9.625, respectively.

Dobronics continued to set the tone for EMU, as she posted their best score on floor exercise, tallying a 9.750, while junior Allie Smith (Telford, Pa.-Souderton) and senior Ciara Gresham (Shiloh, Ill.-Belleville) both scored a 9.700.

Two Eagles competed all-around, as Dobronics finished sixth with a score of 38.450 and Rondeau followed in seventh with a 37.875.

The Green and White look to turn the page as it heads to the Northern Illinois University Triangular to take on two Mid-American Conference foes, host-Northern Illinois and Western Michigan University, Jan. 18, at 6 p.m.
