Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week
Kathleen Duwve, Bowling Green

Bowling Green junior goalkeeper Kathleen Duwve had a 2-0-0 record and a pair of shutouts as the Falcons opened MAC play with road victories over Miami and Ball State. Duwve made a total of five saves on the weekend, including four stops as BGSU blanked Ball State, picked to finish second in the conference, on the road. She made one stop in the Friday win at Miami. The shutout at BSU was Duwve’s second in a row, her third of the season and the seventh complete-match shutout of her BG career. The 0.00 goals-against average last week lowered her season GAA to just 0.65. The Falcons have posted three consecutive shutouts and have a shutout streak of 291:54 heading into next weekend. On the year, Duwve has 35 saves and a saves percentage of .854. The Falcons are off to a 2-0-0 start in MAC play for the first time since 2010.

Chelsee Washington, Bowling Green

Bowling Green junior midfielder Chelsee Washington had three goals and seven points as the Falcons opened MAC play with a pair of wins. Washington was directly involved in the scoring of four of BGSU’s five goals on the weekend, as she had a goal and an assist in a 2-0 win at Miami, then scored the first two goals in a 3-0 victory at Ball State. Washington scored just 1:50 into the Miami match, for the fourth-fastest goal in school history, and she assisted on BG’s other goal, in the second half. The assist came when she headed a corner kick onto the boot of Nikki Cox near the goal line for an easy finish. In addition to the goal and the assist, she hit the crossbar with another shot in the MU game. At Ball State, Washington found the back of the net at the 3:09 mark to give the Falcons the lead for good. That goal came on a one-timer from outside the 18. Then, with 10 minutes left in the first half, she scored her second goal of the afternoon, with a header off of a corner kick for a 2-0 BGSU lead. In addition to the two goals, Washington hit the woodwork for the second-straight game, as a second-half header rang off the goalpost. And, she saw another shot headed off of the line by a BSU defender for a ‘team save.’ On the season, Washington has a team-leading 14 points. She has scored 13 of those points in the last four games, including 12 over the last three matches. And, she has scored the game-winning goal in each of the last three games. She now has three multi-goal matches in her career, including two in the last three contests. Washington entered last Sunday’s Youngstown State match with a total of four career goals, but she has found the back of the net five times in the last three contests. Washington now has career totals of 27 points on nine goals and nine assists in 49 matches as a Falcon. BGSU is off to a 2-0-0 start in MAC play for the first time since 2010.

Marle Bringard, Central Michigan

Junior midfielder Marle Bringard was a force on the defensive end and contributed a key offensive play as Central Michigan swept the opening weekend of MAC play to start the conference season 2-0. On Friday against Ohio, Bringard connected on 79% of her passes and totaled seven interceptions, eight recoveries and five blocks in helping to limit the Bobcats to zero shots on goal. She also supplied the game's only offense, punching in the game winner off a scramble with 18 seconds remaining in double overtime. On Sunday against Kent State, Bringard helped CMU hold the Golden Flashes to zero run-of-play goals (lone KSU goal was a penalty kick) and just three shots on goals.
 
Kaylin Williams, Eastern Michigan

Senior Kaylin Williams turned in another strong weekend in between the posts for Eastern Michigan, Sept. 21-23. For the weekend, Williams racked up 13 saves and held a 1.00 goals against average, while facing 36 shots. She opened the weekend with a 2-0 shutout of preseason MAC favorite and offensive juggernaut, Kent State, Sept. 21. Williams tied a season-high with seven saves, before finishing up the weekend with a six-stop effort against Ohio, Sept. 23. Playing all 180 minutes over the weekend, Williams moved into the top spot for career minutes in EMU history. She also surpassed Erin Norton for fourth-place all-time in career saves.
 
Sydney Malham, Ohio

Goalkeeper Sydney Malham led Ohio in net this past weekend, helping the Bobcats to a 1-1 mark to start MAC play. Overall, Malham allowed two goals on 15 shots on goal faced in 199:42 minutes on the field. On Friday at CMU, Malham helped hold CMU scoreless until the 109th minute, when CMU would take the double OT game, 1-0. In the game, Malham faced eight shots on goal while making seven saves in 109:42 minutes of action. Malham would come back on Sunday, helping lead Ohio to a 2-1 victory at Eastern Michigan, Malham faced seven shots, allowed one gal and made six saves in 90 minutes on the pitch. "
 
Victoria Kryiakopoulos, Western Michigan

Kryiakopoulos started her second and third career games at outside back, helping WMU start off MAC play 2-0 after wins over Akron and Buffalo. Against the Zips she helped the team record  its fifth shutout of the season. She also netted her first collegiate goal, the game-winner, just minutes into overtime. Against Buffalo she helped push the attack and helped end the Bulls seven game winning streak. "
 
Gurjeena Jandu, Buffalo

Junior defender Gurjeena Jandu had her best offensive weekend of her UB career this weekend as she netted a goal and three assists while the Bulls went 1-1 to open up MAC play. The rock-solid defender opened up her weekend with a historic three assist match in the 5-0 win at Northern Illinois as she became the first UB defender in their division I era to notch three assists in a game. Jandu also helped the UB defense earn their fifth clean sheet of the season as they held the Huskies to just two shots for the match including zero in the second half. On Sunday, Jandu was able to net her second goal of the season off of a free kick on Sunday at Western Michigan as she now has recorded a career-high nine points from her center back position on the year. The junior helped UB allow just seven shots on goal on Sunday in the loss to the Broncos. 
 
Kennedy Metzger , Ball State

Kennedy Metzger contributed greatly to Ball State's MAC opening win over Toledo this week. The true freshman was given the task of defending Toledo's start attacker, Hannah Scafaria, and did so successfully as she didn't allow Scafaria to get a shot off. Metzger's efforts on defense led BSU to a 2-0 victory over the Rockets. The freshman started again on Sunday against Bowling Green and helped with the defensive efforts in that match. 
 
Carly Pcholinsky, Akron      
Midfielder, Freshman         
 
Carly Pcholinsky helped Akron earn three points in the MAC standings in the Zips 3-2 win at NIU. The freshman midfielder scored the game-winning score in the 89’ of the match to propel Akron to victory. On the weekend, Pcholinsky tallied one goal, recorded four shots, and one on goal.
 
Natalie Belsito, Central Michigan,
 Forward, Sophomore, Ada, Mich. (Forest Hills Northern)
 
Sophomore forward Natalie Belsito came through in the clutch in a memorable way on Sunday versus Kent State, helping Central Michigan sweep the weekend and open the 2018 conference season 2-0. With the score tied 1-1 in the 69th minute, Belsito got on the end of a long Madison Costner cross from the far wing and chipped it in past the Golden Flashes goalkeeper for what would prove to be the game winner. The goal was the first of Belsito's collegiate career.
 
Kristin Nason, Eastern Michigan

Kristin Nason paced the offensive attack for Eastern Michigan in its opening weekend of Mid-American Conference play. Nason finished the week with three goals, for a total of six points, and became the first Eagle to join the 30-point club since 2014. The Brooklin, Ontario native scored twice in EMU’s MAC-opening win over preseason favorite Kent State, Sept. 21, the first Eagle to find the back of the net twice in a game since 2016. It was also Nason’s third two-goal effort. For the season, Nason now ranks top on the team in goals. Additionally, she sits tied for the lead in goals in MAC play with three, while ranking fourth overall with five. Moreover, Nason has now scored three more goals than she did all of last season.
 
Alivia Milesky, Ohio

Alivia Milesky helped the Bobcats to a 1-1 weekend. Overall, she registered on goal on two shots with one shot on goal for a .500 shot on goal percentage. Milesky finished the weekend with two points and a game winning goal. 
 
Milesky's game-winning goal for the bobcats came on Sunday, when in the 49th minute against EMU, Milesky would head the ball past the Eagles' keeper, putting Ohio up 2-1 at the time. The Bobcat defense would then step up and help seal the victory for Ohio. "
 
Hannah Scafaria, Toledo    
Forward, Senior, Kalamazoo, Mich.
 
Senior captain Hannah Scafaria earned the brace point for Toledo in the Rockets’ 2-1 win over Miami on Sunday. The goal was Scafaria’s eighth of the season, and it tied her career-high from 2017. With the goal, Scafaria now leads the conference in total goals and goals per game (0.80). Scafaria is also ranked 12th in the nation for goals per game as of Sept. 20.
 
Grace Labadie, Western Michigan

 Grace Labadie had a big part in helping WMU open MAC play with a pair of wins over Akron and Buffalo. Labadie had two goals and two assists on the weekend for a total of six points. In WMU’s win over Akron she set up the game-winning goal in overtime, placing a corner kick in the box for teammate Victoria Kyriakopolous to finish off, giving the Broncos a 1-0 win. On Sunday she helped end Buffalo’s seven game winning streak by scoring two goal and adding an assist. Labadie set up the opening goal to give the Broncos a 1-0 lead, then added a penalty kick to push the score to 3-0, the eventual game-winner. She added another penalty kick to give the Broncos a 4-0 lead in the 4-2 win. After weekend she is tied for the league lead in assists with seven and leads the Broncos with 11 points.

Lauren Roll, Ball State        
Midfielder, Senior, Cincinnati, Ohio (Mcauley)
 
 Lauren Roll helped Ball State get off to a solid start in MAC play with a game-winning goal in a 2-0 victory over Toledo. The senior wasted no time getting the Cardinals on the board as she headed in a corner kick in the 11th minute. Roll continued to press the defense for the remainder of the match with another shot on goal and four shots total. The captain's efforts paid off as BSU broke through again with a goal in the 86th minute. On Sunday against Bowling Green, the Cincinnati native fired away two shots and put one on goal to lead the Ball State attack.
