Bowling Green 1, Oakland 3 // Box Score
The Bowling Green State University volleyball team dropped its home opener on Tuesday (Aug. 28) night at the Stroh Center. Oakland University defeated the Falcons, 3-1 (20-25; 25-15; 17-25; 21-25). The match was Bowling Green's first at home in 2018.

Bowling Green won its first set of the season tonight, as the Falcons dominated the second set, winning it by a score of 25-15 to even the match heading into the break. The Falcons quickly doubled up the Golden Grizzlies to seize control of the set. BGSU built up leads of 10-5 and 12-6. Oakland would trim the lead to four points at 16-12, but the Falcons went on to take the next three points before running away with the set.

Kent State 3, Youngstown State 1 // Box Score
Kent State put on a defensive clinic in front of a record number of students Tuesday night at the M.A.C. Center to beat Youngstown State, 3-1 (22-25, 25-16, 25-20, 25-23).

The Golden Flashes (3-1) limited the Penguins (3-1) to a .036 hitting percentage by totaling 90 digs and 15 blocks, which is tied for the second-most in a match during Don Gromala's seven seasons as head coach. Freshman Danie Tyson led the block party with eight stuffs and junior Myla King added seven blocks. Freshman Erin Gardner helped prevent YSU from scoring when they were able to get back the Flashes' blockers and posted her first 30-dig performance.

Northern Illinois 3, Milwaukee 0 // Box Score
The Northern Illinois University volleyball team earned its first win of the 2018 season Tuesday night, sweeping the Milwaukee Panthers 25-15, 25-16, 28-16 at Victor E. Court.

Meg Wolowicz (Manitowoc, Wis./Manitowoc Lincoln) and Jori Radtke (Buffalo Grove, Ill./Stevenson) each led the match with 12 kills. Wolowicz added a career-high 10 digs for the second double-double of her career, and first since the 2016 season.  Radtke had nine digs and a career-high four service aces. Jasmine Kemp (DeKalb, Ill./DeKalb) tied a season-high with seven blocks. Grace Balensiefer (Lafayette, Ind./McCutcheon) had a match-high 27 assists.

Western Michigan 3, Chicago State 0 // Box Score
For the fourth year in a row Western Michigan volleyball won its home opener as the Broncos defeated Chicago State in three sets (25-21, 26-24, 25-16) on Tuesday night inside University Arena.
For the fourth match in a row WMU was led by sophomore Rachel Bontrager who registered 11 kills to go along with two blocks and seven digs. Bontrager came into Tuesday's match ranking second in the Mid-American Conference with 4.36 kills per set.

Against the Cougars, the duo of freshman Sammi Labolle and sophomore Cassandra Smigiel each registered six kills while junior Kate Carey and freshman Meredith Phillips had five kills. Defensively, senior Mary Murphy neared her second double-double of the season with 29 assists and seven digs.
