Field Hockey Defensive Player of the Week
Clara Rodriguez Setó, Kent State 
Back, Sophomore, Barcelona, Spain/Agora Sant Cugat       
 
Kent State sophomore Clara Rodriguez Setó was part of a consistent back row in both games and provided a spark of offense in the Golden Flashes opening weekend of the season. Setó was an instrumental part of a Kent State defense that only allowed one goal in Friday's contest against Old Dominion. With the aid of Setó's play, the Monarch's were held to just four shots on goal and scored the match's only tally on a penalty stroke. The Barcelona, Spain native exploded offensively against Michigan State on Sunday, netting two goals in a thrilling overtime match. Setó scored the Flashes' first goal of the season in the 7th minute of the game off a pass to the corner of the net. Setó scored the second goal in the 26th minute as she recovered the ball off the goalkeeper's pads following a save. Setó put the ball back to the net to tie the game 2-2 leading into halftime. The back row with the help of Setó continued to be instrumental, shutting out the Spartans in the second half to take the game into overtime.
 
Field Hockey Offensive Player of the Week
Paula Portugal, Miami University     
Forward/Midfielder, Senior, Madrid, Spain (IES Diego Velazquez)
 
Paula helped Miami break open a close game with St. Francis, scoring a natural hat trick in a 12-minute span, pushing the lead to a four-goal margin. In addition, her ability to tackle back and win offensive possessions for Miami was crucial in the RedHawks controlling 59% of the possession time. 

Other Defensive Nominees

Mariona Heras, Miami          

Back/Midfielder, R-Senior,Terrassa, Catalonia (IES Terrassa)
 
Heras led a defense that held St. Francis to four shots, only two coming on goal, and three short corners. In the game against #9 Delaware, Heras helped limit the Blue Hens to nine shots on goal and limited entries into the 25. On the offensive end, she added an assist in both games to help bolster Miami's attack. 
 
Lily Amadio, Central Michigan          
Goalkeeper, R-Senior, Shavertown, Pa. (Dallas)                  
 
Redshirt senior Lily Amadio shined in net for Central Michigan in the season's first weekend, allowing just one goal is 150 minutes of play. Against host Colgate on Friday, Amadio held the Raiders off the scoreboard for 80 minutes and made 10 clutch saves before surrendering an overtime goal. On Sunday vs. Saint Louis, Amadio earned a shutout, notching four saves, as the Chippewas gained their first victory of the season. Early on, Amadio boasts a stellar .60 goals against average and a .929 save percentage. 
 
Grace Chavez, Ball State        
Goalkeeper, Sophomore, NORFOLK. VA.      
 
Chavez started both games for the Cardinals this past week, playing the entire 70 minutes of regulation for both contests.  Despite suffering losses against Saint Francis (Pa.) and Big Ten foe Indiana, Chavez managed 11 total saves for the weekend.  Chavez registered six saves Friday against Saint Francis (Pa.) and five versus the Hoosiers on Sunday.
 
Rachel Gaines, Appalachian State     
Goalkeeper, Junior, Kettering, Ohio (Kettering Fairmont)   
 
The Mountaineers' stalwart in goal started off her season with a dominant performance in Appalachian's 2-0 shutout victory over Towson. Gaines was tested in the second half against the Tigers,  making four saves to help preserve the shutout. One of her second half saves included a phenomenal diving save on a shot from close range. Against Georgetown, Gaines stopped six of Georgetown's eight shots on goal. 
 
Katie Wyman, Longwood       
Goalkeeper, R-Junior, Havertown, Pa. (Haverford)
 
Despite facing six corners against a tough Bucknell team, Katie Wyman allowed only one goal on a set play while making stop after stop, none bigger than her kick save with 3:14 to play, preserving a Lancer 2-1 lead down the stretch. Throughout the contest, Wyman came up huge with pad saves and leading the defense from the cage. The lone team captain this season, Wyman picked up where she left off last season with her seven stops on 14 shots faced, nine of those on goal.

Emma Eggleston scored her first goal of the season in the 3-2 loss against Monmouth.
 
Fredi Stegen, Appalachian State       
Midfielder, Freshman, Laatzen, Germany    
 
Stegen was a late arrival to the team this summer, and she's already proven to be a key player. She's started the first two games, scoring Appalachian's opening goal of the season. Her strong play in the midfield helped lead App to a 2-0 victory over Towson. On Sunday, she had one of the Mountaineers' best shots at goal, smashing a shot from the edge of the circle that pinged off the post. Stegen looks to continue her strong start on Friday when Appalachian hosts LIU Brooklyn. 
 
Olivia Wawrzyniak, Longwood          
Forward, Junior, Hilliard, Ohio          
 
Collecting her fourth career game-winner, Olivia Wawrzyniak had a stellar season debut in her first appearance on the forward line. Wawryniak got the night started with an assist in the first half then scored the game-winning goal in the 48th minute on a corner beating the Bucknell goalkeeper to the bottom left corner. Both of Wawrzyniak's shots came on goal as she turned-in a team and game-high three points with her goal and assist.
