Brockhouse and Wilson Named Scholar-Athletes of the Week
Male Scholar Athlete of the Week: April 31st – May 6th, 2018
Ball State's Colin Brockhouse, Baseball (Senior, Exercise Science, 3.416)
Outfielder Colin Brockhouse hit .412 with two home runs and five RBIs in four games. The senior homered in Ball State’s 12-11 comeback win over Ohio State on May 2. The Fort Wayne, Indiana native finished a triple shy of the cycle in Ball State’s 15-1 win over Ohio on May 6, notching a personal-high five hits and equaled a personal best with four RBIs. Brockhouse has reached base safely in 27 of the last 28 games and leads the team in home runs (8), RBIs (37) and doubles (11).?
Female Scholar Athlete of the Week: April 31st – May 6th, 2018
Western Michigan's Marlee Wilson, Softball (Redshirt Senior, Sports Management, 4.0)
Western Michigan redshirt senior Marlee Wilson batted .571 over five games this week, helping WMU upset nationally No. 14 ranked Michigan on the road, as well as win this weekend's Mid-American Conference series against Eastern Michigan. Wilson went 8-for-14 at the plate with one home run, one double, four runs scored and four RBIs. Defensively she had a perfect (1.000) fielding percentage at first base. Wilson collected two hits, including a home run and drove in three in the Broncos' 8-2 upset on the road at Michigan on Tuesday, as the Broncos handed U-M it first home loss of the season. Entering the game, the Wolverines had outscored opponents 92-5 in home contests and held a 12-0 record at Alumni Field. Overall on the year, Michigan had allowed just two earned runs. U-M had also entered the game leading the nation with a 1.09 staff ERA. Wilson came back on Wednesday and batted 3-for-3 at Detroit in the Broncos' final non-conference game of the season. Wilson closed out the weekend batting .479 in the three-game series against Eastern Michigan, going 3-for-7 with a double, a run scored and an RBI. Wilson graduated summa cum laude with her undergrad degree in University Studies in the summer of 2017 with a 3.97 GPA and is currently working towards her master’s degree in sports management, where she is maintaining a 4.0 GPA. Wilson hopes to become a graduate assistant softball coach at a program this fall and continue to study sport management or sport psychology. Her career goal is to become a collegiate softball coach.
