Golden Flashes Sit in Second Place After Day 1 of NCAA Regional

Day 1 Results

San Francisco, Calif.-
 The No. 16 Kent State women's golf team sit atop the leaderboard tied for second place through one round of the NCAA Regional Tournament at the TPC Harding Park Course in San Francisco, Calif.

After 18 holes, the Golden Flashes are one of six teams under par in the tournament at 4-under par 284  tied for second place with Colorado. Kent State is within striking distance of the leader UCLA by four strokes.

Individually, Chloe Salort leads the team at 2-under par 70. She currently sits in a tie for fifth place and is four-strokes behind leaders Mariel Galdiano (UCLA) and Brittany Fan (Colorado) who are both at 6-under par 66. Salort was consistent throughout the day, going without a bogey during the first round. Salort shot nine-straight pars to begin the first round and birdied twice on her final nine holes to put her at 2-under.

Pimnipa Panthong and Karoline Stormo sit in a tie for 10th at 1-under 71. Panthong only bogeyed one time during her 18-hole round and birdied twice. Identical to Panthong, Stormo was consistent during round one with one bogey but birdied her final hole which put her under par.

Kory Nielsen is tied for 25th at even-par. Nielsen had the strongest stats on the team in the birdie category with three total. Rounding out the Flashes lineup tied at 33rd at 1-over par is Michaela Finn. Finn finished the front nine at 2-over but had a strong finish on the back nine with no bogeys that moved her up to 1-over par.

Kent State leads the tournament in par-4 scoring at 3-under and leads with 73 total pars.
