Based on their most recent multi-year Academic Progress Report (APR), these 30 MAC teams have earned NCAA Public Recognition Awards for posting scores in the top 10 percent of their sport. The APR is an annual scorecard of academic achievement calculated for all Division I sports teams nationally. The scores required to be in the top 10 ranged from 985 to a perfect 1,000, depending on the sport.
Kent State led the way in the MAC and was recognized in five sports (women's softball; women's cross country; women's golf; women's gymnastics; women's volleyball), while Bowling Green (men's cross country; men's golf; women's golf; women's gymnastics) and Toledo (women's basketball; women's golf; women's tennis; men's tennis) were each honored in four sports.

Ball State (women's tennis), Buffalo (women's tennis), Central Michigan (women's golf), affiliate Missouri State (men's swimming and diving) and Western Michigan (men's tennis) each received recognition as well.
The APR measures eligibility, graduation and retention each term and provides a clear picture of the academic performance for each team in every sport. The most recent APRs are multiyear rates based on scores from the 2013-14, 2014-15, 2015-16 and 2016-17 academic years. The APR provided a real-time look at a team’s academic success each semester by tracking the academic progress of each student-athlete on scholarship. The APR accounts for eligibility, retention and graduation and provides a measure of each team’s academic performance.
