TOLEDO, Ohio -
The Toledo softball team has accepted a bid to the National Invitational Softball Championship and will travel to Richmond, Ky. for its regional contests.

The Rockets will take on host team Eastern Kentucky in the first round of competition on Thursday, May 17 at 6:00 p.m.

Triple Crown Sports and the National Fastpitch Coaches Association have joined together to bring back the NISC for its second year of existence.

The Division-I postseason event highlights the explosive growth of women's softball and the depth of college talent from coast to coast. This year's field will feature 17 teams placed in four regions across the country.

Nationwide regions will take place with varied numbers of teams in each double elimination tournament. Regional champions will advance on to a separate double elimination event to determine a national champion.

The selection committee offered bids to each of the second-place teams from all 32 automatic qualifying conferences. At-large teams were selected as needed based on RPI, a win-loss record over .500 and record vs. top 50 RPI programs.
