KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- After Akron claimed an early 2-0 lead in the top of the third inning, the Western Michigan offense took over scoring nine unanswered runs en route to a 9-2 victory over the Zips on Saturday afternoon at Ebert Field in Kalamazoo, Mich. The Akron offense tallied six hits and three walks in the contest but struggled to drive in baserunners as the Zips stranded nine on the base path against the Broncos.

It was the sixth consecutive win for the Chippewas (15-15, 5-3 MAC) as they topped the Bulls (13-18, 5-4 MAC) in five innings due to the run rule. The Eagles (6-27, 2-8 MAC) overpowered the RedHawks (14-17, 3-6 MAC), 8-2, in the opener before slipping, 6-2, in game two. Junior Amanda Akles continued to shine at the dish, where she went 2-for-3 on the day, including two home runs and four walks.

MUNCIE, Ind. – In a series finale between both team's aces, Kent State (19-14, 5-4 MAC) received a great start from pitcher Madi Huck, along with 11 hits to defeat Ball State, 4-1. KSU took the series from the Cardinals (24-12, 6-3 MAC) to move above the .500 mark in league play. Huck allowed just one earned run and three hits to Ball State's offense, which is the second best in the conference.

KALAMAZOO, Mich.- Three different Broncos hit home runs and junior pitcher Jordan Kurth struck out seven in a complete-game effort, leading the Western Michigan softball team to a 9-2 win over Akron Saturday. WMU and Akron will finish the three-game Mid-American Conference series with a doubleheader on Sunday, beginning at noon. Akron scored the first two runs of the game, plating two in the top of the third off of a pair of doubles, a fielder's choice and a single.
