KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- After Akron claimed an early 2-0 lead in the top of the third inning, the Western Michigan offense took over scoring nine unanswered runs en route to a 9-2 victory over the Zips on Saturday afternoon at Ebert Field in Kalamazoo, Mich. The Akron offense tallied six hits and three walks in the contest but struggled to drive in baserunners as the Zips stranded nine on the base path against the Broncos.

MUNCIE, Ind.- - The Ball State softball team closed its first home series of the season with a 4-1 loss to Kent State Saturday afternoon in Mid-American Conference play at the Softball Field at First Merchants Ballpark Complex. With the setback, the Cardinals (24-12; 6-3 MAC) suffered their first league series loss of the season.

TOLEDO, Ohio -- Host Toledo rallied late to win Saturday's (April 7) first game, and the Rockets took an early lead in the second game, picking up a sweep of the Bowling Green State University softball team at UT's Scott Park. UT won the first game by a narrow 5-4 score, before posting a 5-1 win in game two.

MOUNT PLEASANT, MI – The University at Buffalo softball team (13-18, 5-4 MAC) dropped the opening game of a three-game series on the road at Central Michigan on Friday afternoon, 10-2. The Bulls led through three innings but the Chippewas scored seven in the fourth to take the game in five innings.

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. - Central Michigan exploded for seven runs in the fifth inning on Saturday en route to a 10-2 Mid-American Conference victory over Buffalo at Margo Jonker Stadium on Saturday. It was the sixth consecutive win for the Chippewas (15-15, 5-3 MAC) as they topped the Bulls (13-18, 5-4 MAC) in five innings due to the run rule. The teams will conclude the three-game series with a doubleheader on Sunday (11 a.m.).

YPSILANTI, Mich. – The Eastern Michigan University softball team split a twin bill against Miami University, Saturday, April 7, at Varsity Field. The Eagles (6-27, 2-8 MAC) overpowered the RedHawks (14-17, 3-6 MAC), 8-2, in the opener before slipping, 6-2, in game two. Junior Amanda Akles continued to shine at the dish, where she went 2-for-3 on the day, including two home runs and four walks.

MUNCIE, Ind. – In a series finale between both team's aces, Kent State (19-14, 5-4 MAC) received a great start from pitcher Madi Huck, along with 11 hits to defeat Ball State, 4-1. KSU took the series from the Cardinals (24-12, 6-3 MAC) to move above the .500 mark in league play. Huck allowed just one earned run and three hits to Ball State's offense, which is the second best in the conference.

TOLEDO, Ohio - The Toledo softball team was victorious in two games over I-75 rival Bowling Green on Saturday to sweep the season series. The Rockets defeated the Falcons by scores of 5-4 and 5-1 to retain first place in the Mid-American Conference West Division with a 9-1 record. The Midnight Blue & Gold is now 25-13 overall, while BGSU drops to an even 18-18 overall, 1-8 in league play.

KALAMAZOO, Mich.- Three different Broncos hit home runs and junior pitcher Jordan Kurth struck out seven in a complete-game effort, leading the Western Michigan softball team to a 9-2 win over Akron Saturday. WMU and Akron will finish the three-game Mid-American Conference series with a doubleheader on Sunday, beginning at noon. Akron scored the first two runs of the game, plating two in the top of the third off of a pair of doubles, a fielder's choice and a single.
