Female Scholar Athlete of the Week: April 16th – April 23rd, 2018

Kent State's Pimnipa Panthong, Golf (Sophomore, Business Management, 3.345)
Pimnipa Panthong earned tournament medalist honors by shooting a MAC Championship record 11-under, 208 to lead #16 Kent State to its record 20th straight conference title. Panthong tied the MAC Championship record by carding a 67 on Friday, which is the lowest opening-round score in the event’s 20-year history. The All-American has now won four consecutive tournaments, which ties the Kent State single-season record, and her six career medalist honors is also tied for the top spot in the program’s record book. Panthong and the Golden Flashes won the tournament by 57 strokes, which is the third-largest margin of victory in the history of the event.
 

Male Scholar Athlete of the Week:  April 16th – April 23rd, 2018

Ohio's Michael Klein, Baseball (Senior, Finance, 3.403)
Redshirt senior designated hitter Michael Klein (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) helped the Ohio baseball team (19-20, 7-8 MAC) take its Mid-American Conference weekend series from rival Kent State on the road last weekend at Olga A. Mural Field at Schoonover Stadium. Klein came through with a two-out, two-RBI double in the top of the 12th inning to push Ohio to a big 5-3 come-from-behind victory over the Golden Flashes on Saturday (April 21) to even the weekend series. Over five games total last week, he posted a .579 slugging percentage to tie for the team lead, collected 11 total bases to tie for the team lead, drove in a team-high eight runs and ranked third on the squad with five hits – including a double, a triple and a home run. Klein notched his fourth home run of the 2018 season last Wednesday (April 18) against longtime rival Marshall at Bob Wren Stadium, hitting a grand slam in the bottom of the first inning.
