Men's Track Athlete of the Week
Hlynur Andresson, Eastern Michigan, 5000m
R-Senior – Vestmannaeyjar, Iceland/Mountain Ridge
Redshirt senior Hlynur Andresson broke yet another personal record in the 5000m at the Virginia Challenge Saturday, April 21. Andresson posted a time of 13:58.91, which serves as the new Icelandic record, while also marking the first time an Icelander has reached a time sub 14:00. Moreover, that time ranks first in the conference by 20 seconds, while ranking 63rd in the country. Andresson now holds the fastest times in the MAC for both the 5000 and 10000m runs.
 
Women’s Track Athlete of the Week
Rachel Walny, Bowling Green, 10000m
R-Junior – Clinton Township, Mich./Chippewa Valley
Rachel Walny broke the school record in the 10,000m and posted the top time in the MAC this year at 33:48.22 at the prestigious Mt. SAC Relays. Walny's time was seven seconds faster than her previous school record from a year ago, when she qualified for the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field National Championships in the event. She leads the conference by almost 29 seconds in the event and sits sixth on the East qualifying list.
 
Men’s Field Athlete of the Week
Terrell McClain, Akron, Long Jump
Senior -Youngstown, Ohio/Youngstown East
University of Akron senior Terrell McClain turned in a statement performance soaring a national-best and school-record 26-10 (8.18m) in the men's long jump to headline the Zips' performances on the final day of the Beach Invitational hosted by Long Beach State on Saturday, April 21. McClain's effort stands as the top jump in the nation this season and No. 10 in the world and betters Collister Fahie' school-record mark of 26-3.75 (8.02m) set on June 25, 2011. He finished behind only Jeff Henderson from adidas, who jumped 27-0.50 (8.24m). McClain's previous career-best mark was 26-1 set on April 16, 2016.
 
Women’s Field Athlete of the Week
Jackie Siefring, Akron, Heptathlon
Senior – Covington, Ohio/Covington
The University of Akron senior Jackie Siefring turned in a record-setting effort in the women's heptathlon registering seven-event cumulative scores of 5,872 on the final day of the Bryan Clay Invitational hosted by Azusa Pacific on Thursday, April 19. Garnering the second-best score in program history, 5,872, Siefring finished second in flight four. Siefring posted a time of 14.12 in the 100-meter hurdles to place fifth before equaling a career-best jump of 5-6.50 (1.69m) in the high jump. In the shot put Siefring recorded a mark of 40-5 (12.32m) before crossing the line in 24.80 in the 200 meters. Siefring soared a season-best 20-2.25 (6.15m) to place second in the long jump before adding her longest throw of the year in the javelin, 127-10 (38.97m). She capped her efforts turning in a personal-best time of 2:11.81 to win the 800 meters. Additionally, she registered times of 60.26 and 14.44 in the 400-meter hurdles at the Beach Invitational.

Men’s Track
Shane Moffo, Central Michigan, 110mH
R-Junior – Farmington Hills, Mich./ Walled Lake Western
Shane Moffo clocked a time of 14.40 seconds for fifth place out of 30 competitors at the prestigious Ohio State Jesse Owens Classic. Moffo adds this fifth-place result to two runner-up finishes in his other two meets this season. His time of 14.23 seconds at the Ole Miss Joe Walker Invite currently ranks him second in the MAC and has given him automatic qualifier status.
 
Mitchell Moore, Buffalo, 400mH
Senior – Ontario, NY/Jamestown
Mitchell Moore placed 2nd overall in the men's 400m hurdles and continues to hold the #1 time in the MAC and ranks #34 in the NCAA East Region.  
 
Christopher Torpy, Miami, 1500m
Sophomore – Orland Park, Ill./Carl Sandburg
One week after posting a PR sub-3:50 in the 1500m and winding up second behind brother Sean, Christopher Torpy usurped his twin as the new leader in the Mid-American Conference with a stellar 3:44.26 at the Bryan Clay Invitational. Torpy, a sophomore, has now turned in big PRs in the 1500 in consecutive weeks as he and his brother continue their pursuit of the sub-4 mile. 
 
Nick Winkler, Akron, 800m
Senior – Wadsworth, Ohio/Wadsworth
Akron senior Nick Winkler turned in the second-fastest time in the Mid-American Conference this season crossing the line in 1:52.00 at the Beach Invitational on Saturday, April 21. His effort represented a season-best time in the event and narrowly missed bettering his career-best time of 1:51.79, while standing as the top performance by a Zip in the event this year. Additionally, he ran a time of 1:55.86 in the event at the Pacific Coast Intercollegiate on Thursday, April 19.
 
 
Women’s Track
Sarah Anderson, Western Michigan, 800m
R-Sophomore – Grand Rapids, Mich./Forest Hills
Sarah Anderson became just the third Bronco in program history to break 2:06 in the outdoor 800-meter run after running a time of 2:05.95 at the Jesse Owens Classic. Anderson took second overall in the event and now has the MAC's top time in the event by nearly four seconds. Her time also put her 16th in the NCAA East Qualifying list. Anderson now only sits behind MAC legend Becky Horn and WMU Hall of Famer Jill Stamison in WMU's all-time record book for the event.
 
Mackenzie Andrews, Akron, 1500m
R-Junior – Toowoomba, Australia/Fairholme College
The University of Akron redshirt junior Mackenzie Andrews ran a school-record time of 4:20.19 in the women's 1,500 meters to pace the efforts of the Zips at the Bryan Clay Invitational hosted by Azusa Pacific on Friday, April 20. Racing in her first race since February due to injury, Andrews broke Beata Rudzinska's school-record time of 4:21.11 set at the Mid-American Conference Championships on May 15, 2004. Seven of the top-20 and eight of the top-37 marks in the country were set in the race.
 
Emily Deering, Ohio, 800m
Junior – Geneva, Ohio/Geneva
Ohio’s Emily Deering (Geneva, Ohio) recorded a personal-best at Ohio State’s 2018 Jesse Owens Classic. The junior raced in the 800m dash and placed in ninth overall with a final time of 2:10.45. This performance auto-qualified Deering for the 2018 Outdoor Mid-American Conference Championships as she is currently tied for the third-best time in the conference.
 
Jasmine Jones, Eastern Michigan, 200m/400m
Senior - Greensburg, PA/Hempfield Area
Senior Jasmine Jones continued to show her dominance as one of the premier sprinters in the conference during the Jesse Owens Invitational Friday, April 20. The Greensburg, Pa. product raced to a first-place finish in the 400m, clocking a personal-best time of 53.96. She also paced the 200m squad with a time of 23.54, finishing second in the event. Furthermore, her 400m time serves as the fastest mark in the conference, which gives her the fastest 100, 200, and 400m times in the MAC this season.
 
Janelle Noe, Toledo, 800m/1500m
Senior – Sylvania, Ohio/Northview
Senior Janelle Noe was one of Toledo’s top performers at the Jesse Owens Track Classic this week. Noe ran in two events, winning one on Friday night and finishing in the top-10 the following afternoon. The Sylvania, Ohio native first ran in the 1,500m where she finished first in 4:22.85, earning MAC automatic qualifying time. Noe then ran the 800m in a personal-best 2:10.45, moving her to third in the conference for the event and giving her her second MAC auto time of the weekend.
 
Maria Scavuzzo, Miami, 5000m
Senior – Medina, Ohio/Medina
Running her specialty, the 5K, Maria Scavuzzo PR'd by over 45 seconds to take fifth at the prestigious Mt. SAC Relays in California. The senior, who now sits second in the MAC in the event, is also second in the conference in the 10,000m.
 
Selina Von Jackowski, Buffalo, 100H
Junior – Pfeffingen, Switzerland/International School of Basel
Selina Von Jackowski dominated her preliminary round of the 100m high hurdles and came back in finals to place 2nd overall.  She was the first collegiate finisher in a season-best time of 13.68. She ranks 4th in the MAC.
 
 
Men’s Field
Brandon Burke, Buffalo, High Jump
Freshman – Churchville, NY/Byron-Bergen
Freshman Brandon Burke jumped a season-best of 6’8.25” to place 2nd in the field at the Larry Ellis Invite.  His mark is a MAC Auto qualifying mark and ranks #3 in the MAC. 
 
Avery Joseph, Central Michigan, Javelin
Junior – Charlotte Amalie, US Virgin Islands/Charlotte Amalie
Avery Joseph captured first place in the open division of the men's javelin with a throw of 61.44 meters (201-7) at the Ohio State Jesse Owens Classic. It was the second-best heave of Joseph's career, and his first victory in the event this outdoor season. His best mark - a 61.96m throw from the NC State Raleigh Relays, has him ranked fourth on the MAC Outdoor Performance List, automatically qualified for the MAC Championships, and ranked 86th on the NCAA Division I Combined Outdoor List.
 
Jannik Schmitt, Eastern Michigan, Discus/Shot Put
Sophomore – Plymouth, Mich./Salem
Sophomore Jannik Schmitt had an impressive showing at the Don Kleinow Memorial Invitational Friday, April 20 in Adrian, Mich. Schmitt took home titles in both the events he competed in, placing first in the discus with a throw of 47.95, and taking home gold in the shot put with a distance of 16.12.
 

Women’s Field
Miranda Daucher, Buffalo, Hammer
Senior – Alden, NY/Alden
Miranda Daucher threw a personal best mark in the Hammer Throw of 55.45m/181’11”, reaching the MAC Auto Mark and ranking #5 in the MAC.   
 
Gabrielle Figueroa, Kent State, Hammer
Senior – Youngstown, Ohio/Austintown Fitch
Senior Gabrielle Figueroa unleashed a monster throw of 206'-6" to break her own school record in the hammer throw on Friday at the Jesse Owens Classic. Figueroa, whose mark gives her a No. 18 national ranking, finished first among collegiate athletes and second overall in the championship section of the event. The only competitor to top 60 meters on every counting attempt, Figueroa topped her previous school record of 203'-5", which was set at the Northeast Ohio Quad on April 6, with two of her throws on the day.
 
Regan Lewis, Ball State, High Jump
Junior – Greenfield, Ind./Greenfield Central
Ball State junior Regan Lewis continued to dominate in the high jump, winning the event at the War Eagle Challenge and improving her national standing by clearing the bar at 1.79m. The defending MAC Outdoor Champion in the high jump, Lewis' effort still leads the conference and ranks eighth on the NCAA Division I East Qualifying list.
 
Janina Pollatz, Eastern Michigan, Pole Vault
Senior – Grandville, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian
Senior Janina Pollatz highlighted the field performances in Saturday’s rendition of the Jesse Owens Invitational. There, she came home with the pole vault title, vaulting to a personal-record height of 4.17m. Moreover, that height acts as the third-best vault in program history, while ranking fifth in the conference and 27th in the country this season.
 
Karoline Steppin, Toledo, Triple Jump
Freshman – Leezen, Germany
Freshman Karoline Steppin continued her dominant freshman season this weekend with a top-three finish at the Jesse Owens Track Classic. The Leezen, Germany native took second in the triple jump after leaping 12.23m. Steppin now has the fourth-best distance in the MAC and is one of only two freshman in the top-five for the event. 
 
Jehvania Whyte, NIU, Triple Jump
Junior – Kingston, Jamaica/Vere Technical
NIU junior jumper Jehvania Whyte (Kingston, Jamaica/Vere Technical) bettered her school record for the third time this season with a 13.42-meter (44' 0.50") final mark in the Michael Johnson Invitational triple jump competition, on Saturday. Each of Whyte's three jumps, bettered her school record, but she broke into the NCAA top-10, sitting at ninth place, with her last jump. 
 
Nadia Williams, Central Michigan, Long Jump
Sophomore – Mount Horeb, Wis./Mount Horeb
Nadia Williams leapt 6.04 meters (19-9 3/4) for second place in the long jump at the Ohio State Jesse Owens Classic. Williams finished just .02 meters behind the event winner, Janelle Perry of Ursuline College. Williams has posted a strong start to this outdoor season in the long jump, recording this runner-up finish, and a first place at the Ole Miss Joe Walker Invite. She currently sits in second place on the MAC Outdoor Performance List, is ranked 75th nationally, and is automatically qualified for the event for the MAC Championships.
