MAC Men’s Singles Tennis Player of the Week
Maik Steiner, Western Michigan – Senior, Erbach, Germany (Gymnasium Michelstadt)
Western Michigan senior Maik Steiner has been the prominent number one player for the Broncos this season as the senior boosted his record to 27-9 overall and 14-5 this spring at No. 1 with a pair of victories this past weekend. Steiner defeated both of his MAC opponents in three sets to push his winning streak to seven and help the Broncos clinch a share of the conference regular season title, the 24th in program history and ninth under head coach Dave Morin. With the two wins, Western Michigan is now 19-4 overall and the only unbeaten team in the league with a 6-0 record.

Villheim Fridell, Buffalo – Sophomore, Gothenburg, Sweden (ProCivitas Privata)
Buffalo sophomore Villheim Fridell continued his tear through the MAC during his lone match this past week as he won another match in straight sets against league-leading Western Michigan. At third singles, Fridell came away with a 6-0, 6-3 win against Lenhard Haupt. Fridell is now 15-9 on the season.

Billy Heckman, Western Michigan – Senior, Kalamazoo, Mich. (Portage Central H.S.)
Western Michigan senior Maik Steiner and senior Billy Heckman improved their spring record to 4-1 with a pair of victories this weekend at No. 3. They began by defeating Binghamton’s Cestarollo/Bouchet 7-5 before taking a 6-2 victory over Nittolo/Johnson from Buffalo. With the help of the seniors, the Broncos have now clinched a share of the conference regular season title, the 24th in program history and ninth under head coach Dave Morin. With the two wins, Western Michigan is now 19-4 overall and the only unbeaten team in the league with a 6-0 record.
